Trivandrum will become the first city in the country to install GPS based Street lights.
The Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled streetlight systems under the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP) will be active in next few months.
GPS enabled streetlights can switch on and off or control its voltage based on the time range of the day. It can also provide automatic information about the repairs needed.
The new technology is expected to save energy up to 35 percent. Around 220 such streetlights will be installed by Crompton Greaves in major locations of the city.
