Vattiyoorkavu Constituency Kerala Assembly Elections 2011 Results, Candidates

Kerala Assembly Elections 2011: Triangular Fight in Vattiyoorkavu, Trivandrum

Vattiyoorkavu, the constituency of high historical value gets ready to face the election with three great warriors.

K. Muralidaran who is recently back in Congress, Cherian Philip who was in Congress 10 years back and Yuva morcha state president, V.V Rajesh are all set for the battle.

The Vattiyoorkavu constituency has 24 wards where the triangular fight takes place.

As the son of Late “leader”, Muralidaran is not new to the political scenario. With his entry to the congress through the Sevadal, he became K.P.C.C president in 2001, state minister in 2004 and thereafter left the congress. It is after 6 years, wading through many controversies, Muralidaran is back again competing in Vattiyoorkavu for the congress.

This constituency is nothing new for Muralidaran as he considers it as his own constituency. Also he resides in the Bagavathy nagar of the same constituency. Even the head office of Kerala congress, ‘Indira Bhavan’ is in the constituency in Vellayamabalam.

The K.T.D.C chairman Cherian Philip rules as a strong opponent for Muralidaran as he contests as an independent for the L.D.F. Cherian Philip who left the congress 10 years before is back to the election scenario but with new policies. As an author and media personality he had already conquered many hearts. He has been earlier the Kerala university union secretary in 1974, K.S.U state president 1975, youth congress vice president in 1980, general secretary in 1982 etc. Even though he contested in the 1991 assembly election in Kottayam, he failed to defeat T.K Ramakrishnan of CPM.

The B.J.P candidate Adv V.V Rajesh cannot be considered a weak opponent compared to the other two. The state president of Yuva Morcha, Rajesh has been the district secretary, state joint secretary, Yuva Morcha vice president in the period 2003-06. He was well recogonised after he was arrested for the flag hoisting in Kashmir on the republic day and this made him be elected as the B.J.P candidate for the constituency.

A tough fight is sure to rise with such strong candidates in the vattiyoorkavu constituency. When the U.D.F won lok sabha elections and both U.D.F and L.D.F came equal in the panchayath election the prediction of who is next in Vattiyoorkavu becomes really tough.
