Trivandrum, 16 September 2011: The Secretariat and GPO marches by SFI and DYFI against the fuel price hike turned violent damaging public property and resulting in lathicharge.
The DYFI march to the General Post Office in Trivandrum in the morning turned violent when the DYFI activists pelted stones to the office damanging the window panes and other items. Police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas to control the situation. The activitists then started blocking the road at Statue later.

Protest against the police from the University college premises by the SFI led to the counter action by the police inside the college campus.
In the afternoon an official car belonging to the Kerala Public Service Commission was torched near General Hospital junction. As per reports three vehicles belonging to government institutions has been set to fire by the activists.
Meanwhile the LDF has announced a Harthal in Trivandrum tomorrow to protest against the police action against the students and activists. Harthal will be of 12 hour duration, from 6 am to 6 pm.
