COCON 2012 inaugurated

Trivandrum, 3 August 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today inaugurated the International Seminar on Cyber Security and Policing Conference (COCON-2012) at  Trivandrum.

In the event the Chief Minister commented "Application of IT has become a common feature in our daily lives. Many IT companies are ready to invest in our state. The government aims to convert this state into an IT hub. The Government services are being digitalized to make it transparent and for its speedy rendering. But the misuse of IT has increased in the recent times. Several Government sites were hacked. Those people who are prone to such attacks are also increasing.

Government’s policy is to ensure cyber security to all, but the government alone cannot provide all the security. Massive awareness needs to be created among people regarding cyber crimes. Crimes against women are rising through Cyber pornography, Cyberstalking, cyber cheating etc. Social networking sites such as Facebook are widely used for cyberstalking."

Since cyber crimes have no boundaries, coordinated efforts of different departments are necessary, CM pointed out.

Ministers Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, P K Kunhalikutty, DGP Jacob Punnoose, and others were also present at the function.
