Malayalam film 'Akashathinte Niram' has been selected in the list of 82 films competing for the final nominations for the Oscar Awards 2012.
The movie has been selected in the 'Best Film' category unlike the last years Malayalam entry 'Adaminte Makan Abu' which was India's official entry in the 'Best Film in the Foreign Language' category.
However Bollywood film 'Barfi' featuring Ranbir Kapoor is India's official entry to the Oscars in the foreign language category.
It is also the first Malayalam film to be shortlisted in the Academy Awards - Best Film category.
Akashathinte Niram (Color of Sky) directed by Dr. Biju revolves around a thief who is trapped in a lonely Island at the Andamans. The movie features Indrajith, Nedumudi Venu, Amala Paul and Prithviraj. in the lead roles.
The film got three awards at the 2012 Kerala State Film Awards which includes Best Cinematography, Best Processing Lab and Special Jury Award for Best Direction.
