108 New Covid-19 Cases in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, June 06: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja has conveyed that 108 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. She also informed the death of a 61-year-old native of Malappuram district, who was undergoing treatment for Covid in the district.

19 persons from Kollam district, 16 in Thrissur district, 12 each from Malappuram and Kannur districts, 11 from Palakkad district, 10 in Kasargod district, nine from Pathanamthitta district, four each in Alappuzha and Kozhikode districts, three each from Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki and Ernakulam districts and two in Kottayam district are those who have been confirmed with the infection.

Of these, 64 have come back from foreign countries (UAE-28, Kuwait-14, Tajikistan-13, Saudi Arabia-4, Nigeria-3, Oman-1 & Ireland-1) and 34 from other states (Maharashtra-15, Delhi-8, Tamil Nadu-5, Gujarat-4, Madhya Pradesh-1 & Andhra Pradesh-1. 10 people were infected through primary contact - seven in Palakkad district, two from Malappuram district and one in Thrissur district.

Meanwhile, the test results of 50 patients undergoing treatment for Coronavirus were negative today. 30 patients from Palakkad district, seven in Kozhikode district (including six Air India employees), six from Ernakulam district, five in Kannur district, and one each from Idukki and Kasargod districts are those who recovered from the disease.  So far, 762 people have been cured of Covid and currently, 1,029 patients are under treatment.

1,83,097 people are under surveillance in different districts of the state. Of these, 1,81,482 are under home or institutional quarantine and 1,615 are isolated in hospitals. 284 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

Over the past 24 hours, 3,903 samples were sent for testing. Till now, samples from 81,517 individuals (including the augmented samples) have been sent for testing and of the available test results, 77,517 samples were negative. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, 20,769 samples were collected from high exposure groups, such as health workers, migrant labourers, etc and 19,597 samples have been confirmed with no infection. A total of 1,07,796 samples have been tested so far, including 5,510 repeat samples.

10 new places were declared as hotspots today - two places each in Kollam and Kozhikode districts, and eight in Palakkad district. As of now, there are 138 hotspots in Kerala.
