Department of General Education Kerala has digitised around 1250 textbooks covering a range of topics that were first published in 1896. The Education department's governing body, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), made the decision to digitise the department's books and archives since many of them would otherwise be in danger of going out of print.
Researchers, students, and other education-related professionals frequently use the physical books that the Department publishes, which are kept in a library. The library also houses textbook archives. The collection that is being digitalized is the one that the Education Department has published over the years.
