The Institute of Distance Education, started in 1976 as a teaching and research department of the University of Kerala, is one of the pioneering centres of distance learning in the state.
The Institute is located in the University campus, at Kariavattom, fourteen kilometres away from the city of Thiruvananthapuram, in the Thiruvananthapuram - Kollam route.
