Trivandrum 26 January 2012: The nation celebrated the 63rd Republic day with ceremonial parades and colourful rallies. In Trivandrum Chief Minister Oommen Chandy hoisted the flag and took salute of the parade which took place at the Central Stadium, Trivandrum.
In the Republic day message the Chief Minister asked the people to remain vigilant against the unscrupulous elements who target the communal harmony of the state. He also commented on the Mullaperiyyar issue, saying that the government will soon find a solution to this issue by dialogues with the state of Tamil Nadu.
This is the first time a Chief Minister is addressing a Republic Day parade in the history of Kerala state, due to non-availability of Hansraj Bhardwaj, the Governor-in-charge who addressed the same at Karnataka.
