Trivandrum, 16 December 2013: Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the titular Maharaja of Travancore died early on Monday at SUT hospital due to age related illness. He was 91.
Uthradom Thirunal is the younger brother of Sree Chithira Tirunal Balarama Varma, the last king of Travancore and the Chairman of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Trust, Trivandrum.
The state government has announced that Monday will be a public holiday in Thiruvananthapuram district, as mark of respect for the former head of the royal family.
