Kutty Srank (Kutti Srank) Review

Shaji N. Karun, the director from Kerala, for the world audience, comes with his new movie 'Kutti Srank' is really a master-class. Basically the movie deals with the life and the death of 'Kutti Srank' [Mammootty] through the memoirs of three women from the background of three religions [Buddhism, Christianity and Hinduism] in three different geographical locations of Kerala.

The story commences from the death of Kutty Srank and develops through the narration of three women, who were lived and understood the character of Kutty Srank. The women are Revamma[Padmapriya], Pemanna [Kamalini Mukherjee] and Kali [Meena Kumari Perera]

Story line
Kutty Srank is a short-tempered, lonely, but law-abiding boatman whose work leads him to travel through the back waters of Kerala. He is very much dedicated to what he does. His only passion is 'Chavittu Nadakam'[Musical Drama]. His life happens to be a riddle and he changes according to the different geographical conditions and the society in which he lives.

From North Malabar to Kochi and to Travancore, he travels from port to port and he accepts the lifestyles and even the dialects and slang of the soil he lives. He depicts the pure human nature and the human mind's unending search of pure love.
One day, when the local police station discovers an unidentified body washed ashore, three women come forward claiming it to be the dead body of Kutty Srank. From their narration Kutty Srank blooms in our mind. All three women love him in different magnitude and Kutty Srank too loves them, one as his mother, one as his sister and one as his better half.

Kutty Srank ultimately leaves behind a story of a man who convinced three very different women he was a committed and faithful husband while successfully keeping his other two lives a secret.

The Crew
Shaji N. Karun did absolutely wonderful job as the creator of a nice movie. The first best thing is his craftsmanship and the next is his casting sense. Absolutely it's a flawless casting. Each and every men and women acted in the movie did their job very well.

The camera of Anjali Shukla is another important part that should be appreciated. She did very well, specially the difference she created from one season to another. The music is given by Isaac Thomas, and it is really good. He created a marvelous mood and those songs he designed for 'Chavittu nadakam' are unforgettable.

Verdict
A thought provoking movie with excellent visuals and stupendous performance of Mammootty. Don't Miss.
