A very rare orchid called Tiger Orchid has been bloomed in Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute, Palode, Trivandrum. The Tiger orchid also called Giant Orchid, Sugar Cane Orchid or Queen of the Orchids, is the world's largest orchid.
The orchid which is scientifically called Grammatophyllum speciosum, is native to New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines, growing in crotches of large trees on exposed areas of the lowland tropical rainforest.
According to the scientists of the Botanical garden, this orchid blooms very rare in Indian circumstances and the flower has a life span of more than 30 days.
