Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) is launching a project “KINFRA Global Ayurveda Village” which attempts to incorporate most modern scientific developments in diagnostic aspects of treatment with classical Ayurveda premises. It aims to bench- mark the project with the Global Centers of traditional medicine and develops it as Integrated Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda. Government of Kerala proposes to develop this project with a motive to transform Kerala as the World Capital of Ayurveda at the time when centre is keen to showcase Ayurveda, yoga, and related products as a part of its ‘Make in India ‘initiative.
Though Ayurveda is well-known as an alternate treatment methodology; the issues faced by the sector have never been addressed methodically, which includes lack of infrastructure for skills development of professionals, Standardization, Documentation, International recognition, Global Acceptance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship development, use of modern technologies in diagnosis, Research and Development, etc.
Plans are up to fill this gap through this upcoming Ayurveda project of KINFRA. The project is planned to be set up in two sites.
Site -1 at Veiloor Village, Chempakamangalam, Thonnakkal, Trivandrum in an area of 7.48 acres is 33 km from airport and
Site – 2 at Ayiroor Village, Varkala, Trivandrum in an area of 63.25 acres is 55 km from airport. It is blessed with natural greenery and water frontage of 1.25 Km which is one of the best tourist destination centers in the tourist map of India.
The project is estimated to incur about Rs 152.50 Crore, including the cost of land. The construction of compound wall work for the first site at Thonnakkal is completed. The project cost of the second site to be developed at Ayiroor village, Varkala is Rs 120 Crore. The land acquisition process for site 2 is in progress.

Shikaras at Trivandrum: Cruise Boats from Kadinamkulam to Akathumuri to be launched

Kerala Tourism is all set to offer cruises for tourists from Kadinamkulam to Akathumuri by developing a backwater tourism circuit linking Kadinamkulam, Anchuthengu, and Akathumuri lakes.

Starting from Perumathura, 29 km north of the capital city, the 3 hour  cruise will cover Anchuthengu, Kayikkara, Ponnumthuruthu (Golden Island), Panayilkadavu, and  Akathumuri. The iconic shikaras of Dal Lake in Srinagar will mostly be used for the cruises that will take three hours to cover the Kadinamkulam-Akathumuri stretch, Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran said.



The boats resembling the Shikaras of Dal lake which can accommodate 20 tourists will be used for this purpose.

Floating jetties for the use of these boars will be set up at Perumathura, Anchuthengu, Kayikkara, Ponnumthuruthu, Panayilkadavu, and Akathumuri.

Kerala Tourism launches Hop-on Hop-off boat and Water Taxi services

Kerala Tourism has launched Hop-on Hop-off boat and Water Taxi services,  the first of its kind in the country. The Hop-off boat and Water Taxi services will be offered from today in the backwaters of Kochi and in the Muziris region

The hop-on hop-off services will cover places like High Court Jetty, Marine Drive, Bolgatty Palace, Vypeen, Fort Kochi and Mattancherry



The air-conditioned boats can accomodate 25 persons and the air-conditioned taxis six persons at a time. The services will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The water taxis will have a single ticket rate of Rs.350 on the boats to travel to Marine Drive, Bolghatty, Vypeen, Fort Kochi, and Mattanchery any number of times during the day.

WWF Gallery at Trivandrum

    
  A project initiated on 2007, shut down after three months due to Central policy imposing restrictions on charitable trusts such as WWF-India from earning profit through exhibitions, once again resurrected in the same old garage at  Moolavilakom, Thiruvananthapuram Kerala is the only State that proudly hosts such a gallery.

One wall of the gallery  has well illustrated volumes of reference books of  WWF publications including Marine Turtles along the Indian Coast, For a Living Ganga, Handbook on Entrepreneurship, How to start eco-friendly small-scale business etc.

The collections in display includes lamp shades, coffee mugs, pen-stands made of bamboo and jute, corporate neck ties  marked by tiny pandas, elephants etc., desk and wall calendars, diaries and notebooks emblazoned with the photos of the Giant Panda, jute and cloth bags. The State office of WWF may also tie up with NGOs in  Kerala to diversify the exhibits that manufactures eco-friendly items.

Varkala and Munnar ranked in Best Value Index



Five Indian destinations were ranked in the 'Best Value Index' published by  Online hotel search engine Trivago.

Nashik in Maharashtra became the top most Indian destination ranking 21st in the list of 100 Value destinations followed by Varkala-Kerala (28), Jaisalmer-Rajasthan (41), Alibaug- Maharashtra (56) and Munnar-Kerala (60).

Ait Benhaddou in Morocco has been selected as the best value city in the world followed by Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The list has been compiled based on the cost of standard hotel accommodation in a particular destination.

Dinosaur Statues at Evolution Park to be inaugurated today


November 14, 2012: The Dinosaur Statues at the Evolution Park at the Science and Technology Museum premises will be inaugurated today in connection with the Children's Day.

Fifteen Dinosaur statues are displayed in the park out of which seven can move using numeric technology.  The mechanically operated Dinosaurs include models of Scelidosaurus, Triceratops, Dimetrodon, Stegosaurus, Pteranodon, Psittacosaurus, Velociraptor, Glyptodon, Woolly Rhinoceros and Diatryma.

 Other attractions at the park include statue of the  'The Archaeopteryx', Light and sound show, musical fountain etc.  The park has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 45 Lakhs with the help of Kolkata Science City and Vishweshwarayya Museum, Bangalore.

Air India Express Schedule 2013; New Flights to Gulf announced



Air India Express to introduce 27 additional flights to Gulf 

 The number of Air India Express (AIE) flights from the three airports in Kerala and from Mangalore to the Gulf countries will go up from 92 per week to 119 from October 29.

This addition of 27 flights per week, as part of the winter schedule of the budget carrier, would mean a rise of about 3,800 seats in the Gulf sector from October end to almost March end.

 According to AIE officials, it is for the first time that the airline is deploying so many services from the cities of Kerala and Mangalore to the Gulf countries after the launch of its low budget carrier in 2005.

The much awaited mobile website m.keralatourism.org is the brand's latest venture to harness the power of smartphones while travelling. The mobile apps and website will feature options for tour planning, updates, guidance and destination details.

Kerala Tourism website at www.keralatourism.org holds the National award for the best website in the tourism category in India.

Trivandrum to Kozhikode SpiceJet Direct Flight Announced


SpiceJet has announced a direct flight from Trivandrum to Kozhikode which will commence its service from May 5, 2012.

Daily flight from Kozhikode to Trivandrum and Trivandrum to Kozhikode will be made using a Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft, announced the company in a press release.



SpiceJet has also announced flights to three other state capitals including Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Joyjets, the First Air Charter & Helicopter Services in Kerala


Trivandrum, 11 March 2011: Joyjets, Kerala's first and the only personal aviation service provider from the aviation wing of the Joy Alukkas group has formally started its operations in the state.

Joyjets is a full service charter operator based in Kochi which runs Air Charter services and Helicopter services. The Air charter services offers flights to local and international destinations from Kochi International Airports at preferred time and dates. The aircraft used in a Phenom 100 developed by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer EMBRAER.

Kovalam: The First Plastic Free Zone in Trivandrum From November 1, 2011

Trivandrum, October 19, 2011: The government has resolved to proclaim Kovalam, one of the chief money minting tourist spot of Kerala, as a plastic-free zone on November 1.

CM Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the function on November 1. The tourist season starts in Kovalam on the first week of November and it lasts till the end of February.

Trivandrum Airport: Old International Terminal is New Domestic Terminal

Trivandrum, September 17: The old international terminal became the new domestic terminal from November 26, 2011 in Trivandrum airport.

As the new international terminal complex started working, the old international terminal has been closed for renovation. Now the renovation works have been completed and the terminal is equipped to carry and host domestic flights.

The first flight which it hosted was AirIndia's AI 465 Delhi - Trivandrum. The old domestic terminal will now converted for operating cargo and freight soon.
