TRIVANDRUM, 21 July 2011: The Election Commission of India is conducting Mock polls for testing the new VVPAT system of voting on an experimental basis in five different states in the country having different climatic conditions. A special Printer will be attached to the Ballot unit of the EVM kept in the voting compartment and a print out on paper containing the name,symbol and serial number of the candidate to whom the vote is cast by the voter will be displayed to him/her instantly. Mock polls will be conducted on 24th July 2011 at Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir,North-west district in New Delhi, Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya, Jaisalmer in Rajastan and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
The Mock poll in Thiruvananthapuram will be conducted at 36 Polling stations in 133-Vattiyoorkkavu Legislative Asssembly Constituency on the 24th (Sunday)July 2011. All are free to cast votes for the mock poll and express their considered opinion on the new system. Those who are not enrolled in the Voters list, who are not living within the jurisdiction of the Legislative Assembly Constituency/Polling Stations, students can cast their votes and express their opinion.
