Hornbill Handloom Brand from Kerala Handlooms


Kerala government in association with 'People's Company',  a start up group has launched 'Hornbill' brand for the ailing Handloom industry in the state.

The limited edition 'Hornbill' apparels were launched by the firm which consist of a collection of 60 garments in 20 designs.



The brand has been envisaged by six youngsters passed out from College of Engineering, Trivandrum who partnered with the government for a project called 'Operation Phoenix'.

The fabrics are woven from high quality silk and cotton from Balaramapuram in Trivandrum and Mayyil in Kannur.

Kerala M-Governance: SMS Formats 537252


Trivandrum, 3 January 2013: The Government of Kerala has introduced M-Governance through which the citizens can avail government services on their mobile phone on 24/7 basis.

Project M-Governance, currently being implemented by the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) with technical help from  MobME Wireless is the first of its kind project in India.

About 110 sms short codes have been created for various government department for this service. For eg: To receive the SSLC results send the SMS SSLC  Register No  ( SSLC Space Register No)  eg: Compose an SMS in the format  SSLC 12345 , where 12345 may be replaced with your actual register NO and Send the Same to the No 537252.

Services such as Sabarimala Alerts, Lottery results, Electricity Bills, Water Bills, KSRTC timings are offered through the M-Governance. The complete list of sms services offered is as follows

Send SMS to Number 537252 along with appropriate SMS format.

Aadhaar Registration: Temporary Stop From February 15 to March 31

Trivandrum, February 13, 2102: The Aadhaar registration through Akshaya centres and Keltron facilities will be temporarily stopped in Kerala from February 15 to March 31, 2012.

The authority said that it is to completion of the dispatch of already registered cards and also for adopting improvised software for the card registration process.

In Kerala there is already 60 lakh registered cards.But the dispatched card count is only 24 lakhs.

Speed Governor is Mandatory for School Vehicles in Kerala



Trivandrum, February 8, 2012: The government issued an order to make the speed governors mandatory for all school vehicles running in Kerala.

The decision came after the State witnessed increased rate of accidents upon school vehicles.

But the three wheeler vehicles are omitted from the order.

e-Payment of MotorVehicles Tax Now at www.keralamvd.gov.in

Trivandrum, February 5, 2012: The regional transport officer has informed the motorists to make use of the recently introduced e-payment facility to pay motor vehicles tax and fee for various other services of the department.

The e-payment can be made through the website of the motor vehicles department www.keralamvd.gov.in and the details of the facility have been displayed at the regional transport office.

Plastic Waste Treatment Plant in Poojappura Central Jail Compound

Trivandrum, February 1, 2012: The government has mooted the idea of setting up a plastic waste treatment facility in the Central prison compound at Poojappura, Trivandrum.

The suggestion came in a meeting where Trivandrum Mayor K. Chandrika, Industries Minister PK Kunjalikutty and Forest Minister KB Ganesh Kumar attended.

KSEDM: Kerala State Self Entrepreneur Development Mission Aims at One Lakh Jobs in 5 Years

Trivandrum, February 1, 2012: CM Oommen Chandy to inaugurate the  Kerala State Self Entrepreneur Development Mission, an ambitious programme of creating 50000 trained entrepreneurs in the State, on February 2, 2012.

The revolutionary programme is first of its kind in India. Nearly 15000 applications received by the government after inviting interested in joining the mission. The Kerala Financial corporation has selected 4000 of the applicants for the first batch training.

Training starts on February 6, 2012 for a group of 818 youngsters.

Unnathi: A Kudumbasree Programme For Women in IT

Trivandrum, January 18, 2012: Kudumbasree has formed a state level consortium of IT units called 'Unnathi' to boost the entrepreneurial acumen of women in the IT sector.

The head office of the Unnathi will be in Thrissur. The group willfocus on upgrade of IT infrastructure and skills development in addition to facilitating access to expert assistance.

It also aims on creating jobs for women in the IT sector. Women below the age of 40 and with a minimum qualification of plus two are eligible to start an IT unit.

Plans to Make Secretariat Carbon Neutral In 6 Months by Kerala Energy Management Centre

Trivandrum, January 6, 2012: The newly created Department of Environment and Climate Change resolved to sponsor the study on turning the State Secretariat complex into a carbon neutral complex.

The study led by Kerala Energy Management Centre expected to be completed in 6 months and also they have launched 3 projects to make public buildings more energy efficient and to make public lighting environmentally sustainable.

KM Mani - Finance Minister is Now Online: Now Register Your Complaints Regarding Finance Department at www.fm.kerala.gov.in

Trivandrum, December 30, 2011: The online facility that enables the public to submit complaints to Finance Minister K.M. Mani commenced from today.

The inauguration of the online facility took place at the Finance Minister's chamber in the Administrative Secretariat.

One can register their complaints at www.fm.kerala.gov.in. A reference number will be given to the complainant after registering complaint. The application's movement can be traced through the website itself.

First Passport Seva Kendra in Trivandrum at Vazhuthacaud

Trivandrum, December 29, 2011: City's first Passport Seva Kendra will start at Vazhuthacaud soon. This would be the 31st Kendra in India. The major advantage of the Kendra is that the applicant would know on his very first visit itself whether he would given passport.

The process is simple. The applicant must first log on to www.passportindia.gov.in to register and submit the application form and documents online. Then an online appointment can be scheduled with the Kendra. Then the applicant can reach the Kendra, a help-desk in Kendra will guide the applicant and recheck the documents and entries made. Then the applicant will be assisted in the verification procedures and fees collection.

The photograph of applicant will be taken in the Kendra and a biometric scan also will be done. After that there will be a varification in B and C counters by the government officials.

In the final stage, the applicant will be informed whether he is eligible for a passport or not. The national helpline number of the Passport Seva Kendra is 1800 258 1800.

1000 Crore Project For Kerala University Platinum Jubilee

Trivandrum, December 13, 2011: A thousand crore project for infrastructure development consisting of an international convention centre, an indoor sports complex, a solar energy scheme for the Karyavattom campus and an institute for defence and strategic studies has been declared on the venue where the logo of Kerala University's platinum jubilee has been unveiled.

Rebuilding of Hostel in Karyavattom Campus.
A 100 bed hostel for foreign students.

Akshaya e-District Project Extends to All 14 Districts


Trivandrum, November 30, 2011: Kerala Government’s e-governance programme, the e-District project has been resolved to extend to all 14 districts as announced during the Akshaya Day celebrations.

The Minister for Industries & IT, P K Kunhalikutty at the function of the Akshaya Day celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram, had announced that the e-District project will be extended to all the 14 districts of the State.

Currently, the e-District project covers only two districts of Palakkad and Kannur, where it was launched in 2010.
