Trivandrum, 28 July 2012: The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced the revised tariffs for the consumption of electricity in the state. The average increase of the electricity tariff is 30.2% and KSEB expects to get an additional income of Rs. 1676 crores after the hike. However the board will able to meet only 95% of its cost per unit of electricity with the hike.

The Board also plans to introduce the concept of "Time of Day" (TOD) tariff in domestic sector from January 1, 2013. As per this the consumers with a average consumption of over 500 units per month will have to pay more price for the electricity used during the peak hours from 6 pm to 10 pm.
The tariff for the agriculture activities has also been increased from Rs. 1.30 per unit to Rs. 1.80 per unit. The average tariff for domestic consumers is Rs. 2.80 per unit.
