Petrol Pumps to be Closed on Sundays in Kerala

Petrol pumps in Kerala will remain closed on Sundays from May 14, 2017 onwards. The Sunday shutdown of pumps will be in effect in eight states which includes Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana.

The move is an effort by owners’ association to comply with a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his “Mann ki Baat” programme to use oil resources judiciously, as per reports. '

However experts opine that government can invoke Essential Commodities Act (ECA) over the decision by the Consortium of Indian petroleum dealers of shutting down the petrol pumps.
