Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) 2021

 Trivandrum 11 March 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth Global Ayurveda Festival (GAF) which begins on Friday.  The inaugural session of the online event will be at 6pm on Saturday.  The event will conclude on March 19. Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports and Union Minister V Muraleedharan will take part in the inaugural event.  The festival will showcase international seminars, global exhibitions and business meets at five virtual venues between 9am and 10pm.


 This event, organised in the high-end online platform by CISSA, will carry all the components, as in earlier GAFs, including an international seminar, expo, business meet, with the additional provision of viewing the digital platforms for an extended period of time. This, we hope, will be the largest online event in Ayurveda ever, and we solicit your dedicated support to GAF scheduled for 12-19 March 2021.

Black fever (Karimbani) identified in South Kerala

A new fever, named Black fever also known as Visceral leishmaniasis, Dumdum fever, Kala Azar and Karimbani has been identified in Kollam District. A patient with symptoms of Black fever has been admitted in Trivandrum Medical College.

Kala-azar is a slow progressing indigenous disease caused by a protozoan parasite of genus Leishmania. The parasite primarily infects reticuloendothelial system and may be found in abundance in bone marrow, spleen and liver.




Signs & Symptoms 
Recurrent fever intermittent or remittent with often double rise
loss of appetite, pallor and weight loss with progressive emaciation
weakness
Splenomegaly – spleen enlarges rapidly to massive enlargement, usually soft and nontender
Liver – enlargement not to the extent of spleen, soft, smooth surface, sharp edge
Lymphadenopathy – not very common in India
Skin – dry, thin and scaly and hair may be lost. Light coloured persons show grayish discolouration of the skin of hands, feet, abdomen and face which gives the Indian name Kala-azar meaning “Black fever”
Anaemia – develops rapidly

Theatre Olympics 2018 at Trivandrum

The 8th Theatre Olympics organised by the National School of Drama and Ministry of Culture will be held at Trivandrum from February 22, 2017 onwards. 



The plays include folk productions Purulia Chhau directed by Dilip Mahal and Nacha directed by JashiramSahu, and Maharathi Karna directed by Shrimant Sasane and international plays such as Sukara Asapuwa - A Place with Pigs directed by Jehan Srikantha Appuhami from Sri Lanka and Let it be Art directed by Gregory Ables from USA.

Other plays include Old Man and the Sea directed by Sasidharan Naduvil, Love Your Nature directed by Y. Sadanand Singh and Kamsavadham, a Nangyarkooth performance by Sindhu T.M. The admission for the fest will be open to all.

Weather Warning for Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) by Met Department

Heavy Rainfall Warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological department in the souther coast of Kerala.

 Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over Lakshadweep area during next 48 hours.
Heavy rainfall (7-11cm in 24 hrs) is most likely to occur at a few places in South Kerala till the morning of 2nd December 2017.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 65 to 75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph very likely along and off south Kerala coasts,   strong winds from East/Southeast direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph likely along off North Kerala coast and from Northwest /North direction  over Lakshadweep area till 1400 IST on 01.12.2017.   Fishermen are advised not to venture in to the sea.


01 December (Day 2): ♦ Heavy  to very heavy rain very likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Lakshadweep;
heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and heavy rain at isolated places over interior Tamilnadu
and Kerala.
♦ Gale wind speed reaching 80­90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph very likely over & around Lakshadweep Islands.
♦ Squally winds speed reaching 55­65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph very likely along and off Kerala coast and speed reaching 30­40 kmph gusting to
50 kmph very likely around Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining Seas.
♦  Sea conditions very likely to be very rough to high along and off south Kerala and high around Lakshadweep Islands.
♦  Fishermen are advised not to venture into Sea along and off Kerala coast and around Lakshadweep Islands and are advised to be cautious
while venturing into Sea around Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
♦ Dense to very dense fog at isolated places very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
02 December (Day 3):♦ Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Tamilnadu & Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
♦ Squally winds speed reaching 35­45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph very likely around Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining seas.
♦  Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into Sea around Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
♦  Moderate to very dense fog at isolated places very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura

Cyclone Ockhi hits Trivandrum resulting in heavy rainfall

Cyclonic storm Ockhi hit the southern coast of Kerala resulting in catastrophic damage and distrupting normal life in Thiruvananthapuram. The city was affected by the Heavy rains and strong winds resulting in damage to buildings, road and plant life.

Four people has been reportedly dead as a result of the incidents due to the  cyclone till now. Several trees were uprooted disrupting rail and road traffic.

Over 200 fishermen in 50 odd boats have failed to return to the Trivandrum, Kollam coasts. Indian Navy has been setup a rescue mission with its four ships and helicopters.



Wind speed were at 120 km per hour and waves rose to a height of 4.2 as per reports. Shutters of Neyyar and Peppara dams in the regions has been opened due to heavy rainfall. Trains were cancelled or rescheduled as a result of the cyclone.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Fisheries minister Mercy Kutty Amma said that all the necessary arrangements have been made to face the emergency situation. Schools in the district were given holiday from afternoon onwards yesterday.

Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds Opening film of IFFI 2017

 Iranian director Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds, will be the opening film in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 20. The film, which stars actor Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khattar and Malayalam actor Malavika Mohanan, has been entirely shot in India with the local cast and crew.

 Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed its music and the Hindi dialogues has been penned by Vishal Bhardwaj.



Beyond the Clouds revolves around the adoration of love, life and human relationships between a brother and sister which takes place in the ever bustling city of Mumbai. The movie is a tri-lingual with dialogues in English, Tamil and Hindi. Academy award winner AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.

Majidi, Ishaan Khattar, Malavika , AR Rahman and Vishal Bhardwaj, is expected to attend the screening.

First Child Friendly Police Station in Kerala

Trivandrum, 13 November 2017: The first child-friendly police station in Kerala has been set up at East Fort, Trivandrum. The make over of the  Fort Janamaithri police station with the help of an aid of Rs. 26 lakhs includes cartoon characters on the wall, toys , garden, park and walkways with interlock bricks.

The inauguration of the child friendly police station will be done by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Childrens day this year.

This year Abhinavamirag S S, student of Carmel school, will be the children's Prime minister. Adwaith P R of Christ Nagar central school will be the president.  Archa A J of St Thomas HSS will be the speaker.

Students selected for welcome speech and vote of thanks are Ashlyn Clarence and Alina A P respectively.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will deliver the Children's Day message at SMV Higher Secondary School at 2.30pm. The Children's Day stamp designed by Athul S Raj, 10th standard student of M D Seminary School, Kottayam will be released in the meeting.

The Children's Day rally will be taken out from SMV Higher Secondary School till University College at 3.30pm and end at University College.

IFFK 2017: 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala, Online Registration to begin

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7, 2017: The 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2017) will be held from December 8 to 15 this year. The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan
and Bengali actor Madhabi Mukherjee will be the chief guest.

Russian Director Alexander Sokurov will be felicitated during the occasion with Lifetime Achievement Award. Also Six films of Sorukov will be screened in the retrospective category. Other retrospectives include KP Kumaran, Lino Brocka of Philippines.



Prem Shankar's Randuper and Sanju Surendran's Aedan will be competing in the International category along with Newton and Village Rockstars.  The Malayalam Cinema today category will showcase Take Off, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Angamaly Diaries, Karutha Joothan, Maravi, Athisayangalude Venal and Nayinte Hriduayam.

The festival will be held along 14 theatres with 8000 plus seats and 10,000 delegates are expected to attend the festival.

The delegate fee is Rs 650 and the fee for students is Rs 350.

Delegate registration will start on November 10, 2017 online.

President Ram Nath Kovind to visit Thiruvananthapuram

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind will arrive at Trivandrum tommorrow.  President will lay the foundation stone for the first government building in the prestigious Technocity at Pallipuram. In  the evening, the President will pay tributes at the Ayyankali statue situated at Vellayambalam at 5.30 p.m.

The Thiruvananthapuram city Corporation will host a public reception for the President at Tagore Theatre on behalf of the State government at 6 p.m.

He will leave for Kochi on Saturday at 9.45 a.m.

Technocity Trivandrum

Technocity, the IT hub will be launched by President Ram Nath Kovind on October 27, as the country's biggest futuristic IT park. The President would lay the foundation stone for the first government IT building at Technocity on the day.



Technocity is a technology park and integrated township in Thiruvananthapuram, dedicated to electronics, software, and other Information Technology (IT) ventures. Technocity is a complete IT City, spread across about 400 acres (200 hectares) at Pallipuram, which includes not just space for IT/ITES firms but also residential, commercial, hospitality, medical and educational facilities. 

Technocity is being jointly developed by the Government of Kerala and private players. 

Organisations like Tata Consultancy Services, SunTec, IIITM-K and KASE have already taken land for developing their respective campuses at Technocity.

Kerala Cricket Association announces the ticket sales details for the T20i Cricket Match between India and New Zealand scheduled to be held at Trivandrum International Stadium on November 7,2017.

The online ticket sales will start from October 16 till October 29, 2017. These tickets will be available via the websites of Federal Bank Ltd (www.federalbank.co.in) and Kerala Cricket Association (www.keralacricketassociation.com). These online tickets have to be collected in "originals" from the Cotton Hill Branch of Federal Bank at Vazhuthacaud from November 1, 2017 to November 6, 2017 or from the special ticket counter located at the main gate of the Stadium (Opposite to University of Kerala, Karyavattom Campus) from November 5, 2017 to November 6, 2017.

Trivandrum Rain: Holiday on 18 September 2017

Trivandrum 18 September 2017: As the heavy rains are continuing in Kerala over the past 24 hours, the State Government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges on Monday 18 September 2017.

Interceptor Vehicle by Motor Vehicle Department in Every District



Trivandrum, 26 August 2017: The Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has announced new services to curb road transport offences in the state.

The offences will now be intimated over Email or sms to the vehicle owners account. Payment can be done through online facility.

The department will provide 14 Interceptor vehicles, one to every district. These vehicles will be equipped with 180 degree wide angle video camera, overspeed radar, breath analyser, lux meter, opacity meter, decibel metre etc.

'Hamari Malayalam' Book for learning Malayalam for Migrant Workers


The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority will release a textbook titled Hamari Malayalam exclusively to teach migrant labourers Malayalam, the mother tongue of the people of the state. The state government expects to supply the book to around 25 lakh workers, who migrated to Kerala from other states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu.

Titled ‘Hamari Malayalam’ (Our Malayalam), the textbook will be launched by state Education Minister C Raveendranath at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district, a town with largest migrant labour population in the state.



The textbook would be used under ‘Changathi’, the Mission’s exclusive programme for migrant workers.

Detailing the features of the textbook, Sreekala said ‘Hamari Malayalam’ comprises 25 chapters dealing with various topics ranging from hygiene, health and technology to rights of workers and ethical values.
