Mohanlal attends 48th Kerala State Film Awards in Trivandrum

Thiruvananthapuram, 8 August 2018: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented the 48th Kerala State Film Awards in Trivandrum amidst controversy.

Festival on Democracy at Trivandrum

Trivandrum, 3 August 2018: As the final phase of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Kerala Legislative Assembly, a seminars titled ‘Festival on Democracy’ has been conceived including a series of national level seminars, aimed at fostering, inculcating, sensitising, reiterating and thereby strengthening the values and ethos of democracy, as envisaged in the Constitution of India. Heavy rains and wind submerges Trivandrum


Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain along with strong wind and lightning affected normal life in the state capital Monday. The 12 hour non-stop rain flooded low lying areas and important roads and also claimed one life.

Georgekutty John, a 74 year old man died from electric shock from a fallen electric line at Nalanchira.



Thampanoor, Thycaud, Puthenpalam, Thekkumoodu, Manacaud, Vanchiyoor, Kannammoola, NCC Nagar, Ambalamukku were most affected.

Schools and colleges were given holiday following the unexpected and heavy downpour.

Hire Autorickshaws Online at ‘Vehicle ST smart auto’ in Trivandrum

‘Vehicle ST smart auto’, an app based ride booking service has been lauched in Trivandrum. Unlike the popular taxi cab service, Vehicle ST smart auto is an autorickshaw booking app. The app has been launched by Bangalore based startup company ‘VehicleST.com’.

Trivandrum is the first city in Kerala which features this app-connected auto service.



The passengers can locate autos through the app and contact the nearest driver through the phone number listed in the app. The autorickshaws are equipped with a tablet which greets the passengers in the auto which gives details of the driver. The passenger can enter the destination, monitor the route, estimated time and speed of auto and browse internet for free. The tablet also contains an emergency button connected to the police control for ensuring safety to the passengers. Passengers can also rate the ride quality and behaviour of the driver too.

Trivandrum, 04 July, 2018, A group of techies from Technopark has launched a Facebook page, Trivandrum Traffic Offenders in which users can post photographs of Traffic violations in the city and nearby areas.



The group has been initated by Suryajith, Renjith, Vishakh and Cherian and urges  people to post pictures of traffic offences they come across or write about traffic violations on the road.

The group is part of the Facebook group Trivandrum — Let’s make our City the Best.

KSRTC Fly Bus from Trivandrum, Nedumbassery, Karipur Airports

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, (KSRTC) has launched a new service named Fly Bus which will operate from International Airports in the state.

The 42-seater air-conditioned new bus service will connect Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin and Karipur International airports to the nearest cities.

The Fly Bus will operate every 45 minutes round the clock from the premier airport of the State in the capital to East Fort and Thampanoor, every 30 minutes from Cochin international airport in Nedumbaserry to Vyttila and every one hour from Karipur airport international to Kozhikode.

The fares of the Fly Bus will be the same in the low floor air conditioned buses. The timings of the buses will coincide with the flight arrivals and will be displayed in the terminals.

Nissan Digital Hub in Trivandrum

Japanese automobile major Nissan Motor Co. Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kerala Government to establish a new global centre for digital operations in India.

The digital hub proposed in Trivandrum, is the first  software and information technology hub development that Nissan has planned in Asia, Europe and North America. The hub will be located at Technopark and will be the third venture by Nissan in India apart from one in Chennai and Gurgaon.



The digital hub are expected aide Nissan to provide best-in-class user experiences, product development capabilities, security and connectivity  and electric vehicle technology.

Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister for Kerala and Tony Thomas, CIO, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.,lighted the lamp for the inauguration of the ceremony.

SugTaxi online taxi booking service in Trivandrum launched

SugTaxi, a new online taxi booking service has been launched in Trivandrum. The SugTaxi cab service has been launched by Sughelp a one person company headed by Anish Kumar SS, graduate from College of Engineering, Trivandrum.

Unlike other online taxi service, SugTaxi has no surge pricing but fixed rate. Also the customers have the option to choose the driver  and model of the vehicle.  Presently more than 100 drivers have attached themselves to the service.



Hatchback, Sedan and SUV variants are available. Hatchback taxi are small taxi with a passenger seating capacity of maximum 4 and less boot space. This taxi is more suitable if you are traveling alone or with your family without much luggage. Sedan taxi are little bigger than Hatchback taxi with a passenger seating capacity of maximum 4 and bigger boot space. This taxi is more suitable if you are traveling alone or with your family with enough luggage. SUV taxi are bigger taxi than Hatchback and Sedan, with a passenger seating capacity of maximum 8. Six brands responsible for half the plastic wastes in Trivandrum

Six brands produce half of the plastic wastes from households in Trivandrum. The information was gathered in a brand audit conducted by the Green Army of the city corporation in association with Thanal. Milma, the milk marketer leads the list with 15.2% plastic waste.



The leading plastic waste producing brands are as follows
Milma (15.2%)  PepsiCo (10.3%), Daily Fresh (8.3%), Hindustan Unilever Limited (5.8%), Kelloggs India (5.5%), Reckitt Benckiser (5%), Karnataka Coop Milk Producers (3.5%), Colgate Palmolive (3.4%), Baba Industries (2%), ITC (1.8%), Ajmi Flour Mills (1.7%), Nestle (1.7%), Coca-cola (1.5%), Marico (1.4%), Cantu (1.3%), SupplyCo (1.3%), Rajah Company (1.3%), Jyothy Laboratories (1.1%), Parle Biscuit Pvt Ltd (1.1%) and Modern Food (1%).

Black fever (Karimbani) identified in South Kerala

A new fever, named Black fever also known as Visceral leishmaniasis, Dumdum fever, Kala Azar and Karimbani has been identified in Kollam District. A patient with symptoms of Black fever has been admitted in Trivandrum Medical College.

Kala-azar is a slow progressing indigenous disease caused by a protozoan parasite of genus Leishmania. The parasite primarily infects reticuloendothelial system and may be found in abundance in bone marrow, spleen and liver.




Signs & Symptoms 
Recurrent fever intermittent or remittent with often double rise
loss of appetite, pallor and weight loss with progressive emaciation
weakness
Splenomegaly – spleen enlarges rapidly to massive enlargement, usually soft and nontender
Liver – enlargement not to the extent of spleen, soft, smooth surface, sharp edge
Lymphadenopathy – not very common in India
Skin – dry, thin and scaly and hair may be lost. Light coloured persons show grayish discolouration of the skin of hands, feet, abdomen and face which gives the Indian name Kala-azar meaning “Black fever”
Anaemia – develops rapidly

Theatre Olympics 2018 at Trivandrum

The 8th Theatre Olympics organised by the National School of Drama and Ministry of Culture will be held at Trivandrum from February 22, 2017 onwards. 



The plays include folk productions Purulia Chhau directed by Dilip Mahal and Nacha directed by JashiramSahu, and Maharathi Karna directed by Shrimant Sasane and international plays such as Sukara Asapuwa - A Place with Pigs directed by Jehan Srikantha Appuhami from Sri Lanka and Let it be Art directed by Gregory Ables from USA.

Other plays include Old Man and the Sea directed by Sasidharan Naduvil, Love Your Nature directed by Y. Sadanand Singh and Kamsavadham, a Nangyarkooth performance by Sindhu T.M. The admission for the fest will be open to all.

Weather Warning for Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) by Met Department

Heavy Rainfall Warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological department in the souther coast of Kerala.

 Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls very likely over Lakshadweep area during next 48 hours.
Heavy rainfall (7-11cm in 24 hrs) is most likely to occur at a few places in South Kerala till the morning of 2nd December 2017.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 65 to 75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph very likely along and off south Kerala coasts,   strong winds from East/Southeast direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph likely along off North Kerala coast and from Northwest /North direction  over Lakshadweep area till 1400 IST on 01.12.2017.   Fishermen are advised not to venture in to the sea.


01 December (Day 2): ♦ Heavy  to very heavy rain very likely at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Lakshadweep;
heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and heavy rain at isolated places over interior Tamilnadu
and Kerala.
♦ Gale wind speed reaching 80­90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph very likely over & around Lakshadweep Islands.
♦ Squally winds speed reaching 55­65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph very likely along and off Kerala coast and speed reaching 30­40 kmph gusting to
50 kmph very likely around Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining Seas.
♦  Sea conditions very likely to be very rough to high along and off south Kerala and high around Lakshadweep Islands.
♦  Fishermen are advised not to venture into Sea along and off Kerala coast and around Lakshadweep Islands and are advised to be cautious

Cyclone Ockhi hits Trivandrum resulting in heavy rainfall

Cyclonic storm Ockhi hit the southern coast of Kerala resulting in catastrophic damage and distrupting normal life in Thiruvananthapuram. The city was affected by the Heavy rains and strong winds resulting in damage to buildings, road and plant life.

Four people has been reportedly dead as a result of the incidents due to the  cyclone till now. Several trees were uprooted disrupting rail and road traffic.

Over 200 fishermen in 50 odd boats have failed to return to the Trivandrum, Kollam coasts. Indian Navy has been setup a rescue mission with its four ships and helicopters.



Wind speed were at 120 km per hour and waves rose to a height of 4.2 as per reports. Shutters of Neyyar and Peppara dams in the regions has been opened due to heavy rainfall. Trains were cancelled or rescheduled as a result of the cyclone.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Fisheries minister Mercy Kutty Amma said that all the necessary arrangements have been made to face the emergency situation. Schools in the district were given holiday from afternoon onwards yesterday.

Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds Opening film of IFFI 2017

 Iranian director Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds, will be the opening film in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 20. The film, which stars actor Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khattar and Malayalam actor Malavika Mohanan, has been entirely shot in India with the local cast and crew.

 Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed its music and the Hindi dialogues has been penned by Vishal Bhardwaj.



Beyond the Clouds revolves around the adoration of love, life and human relationships between a brother and sister which takes place in the ever bustling city of Mumbai. The movie is a tri-lingual with dialogues in English, Tamil and Hindi. Academy award winner AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.

Majidi, Ishaan Khattar, Malavika , AR Rahman and Vishal Bhardwaj, is expected to attend the screening.
