Trivandrum, 14 August 2012: The first commando force of Kerala police - 'Kerala Thunder Bolts' under the India Reserve Battalion will begin its operations soon. The true commando force of Kerala has been selected and trained as commandos in the lines of National Security Guards (NSG) and Special Protection Group (SPG).
Two companies of Thunder Bolts with 160 commandos in the age group of 18-21 has been trained in battle obstacles assault course, mob operation, jungle warfare, anti-terrorism, counter urban insurgency, bomb detection and disposal, disaster management, underwater and airborne operations. The group is provided with equipments including tactical vests, light weight bullet jackets, tactical boots, hi-tech communication devices, satellite phones, night vision devices and specially designed helmets.

The demonstration of the first batch of Kerala Thunder Bolts will be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium on August 14, 2012. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will attend the event. The demonstration which starts at 5 pm is open to the general public too.
