The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2013 will be held in Kochi, Kerala from 7-9 January, 2013. The venue for the event will be Hotel Le Meridien, Kochi. Prime Minister of India will inaugurate the event on 8th January, 2013 and President of India will deliver the valedictory address on 9th January, 2013. He will also present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards to the winners. The theme of this year’s PBD is 'Engaging Diaspora: The Indian Growth Story' . Around 2000 delegates are expected to participate in the event.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, returned to India from South Africa. The event has been organized every year since 2003, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry)
