Functioning of Ration shops in Kerala Lock down 2020

Government of Kerala ha announced a pattern for purchase of ration from ration shops in the state. From April 1st onwards, those with ration card number ending 0 and 1 can buy the rice on the first day (Wednesday). Similarly the following pattern has to be maintained

April 1 - Card number ending in 0,1
April 2 - Card number ending in 2,3
April 3 - Card number ending in 4,5
April 4 - Card number ending in 6,7
April 5 - Card number ending in 8,9


Priority card holders (yellow and pink cards) can purchase rice from ration shops from morning till noon, while the non-priority card holders (blue and white cards) can approach the shops in the afternoon. At a time only five persons will be allowed inside the shop.

TCS to build World's largest Learning Centre at Thiruvananthapuram

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone to set up the world's largest corporate learning and development centre in Thiruvananthapuram.

India's largest software services firm Tata Consultancy Services is behind this venture

.It is having a total capacity to train 50,000 professionals every year.The campus will have residential accommodation for professionals and faculty working at the centre

.The proposed centre is located on a 97-acre property in the Technopark area of the city.

Grand Kerala Shopping Festival 2014

22 December, 2013: The 7th Grand Kerala Shopping Festival 2013 will be held in Kerala from December 22, 2013 to February 2014. The festival which is touted as the largest shopping festival in Asia offers lots of prizes in the form of cash and gold.

 A MoU has been signed with Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES), the largest trade organization in India, to increase a target of 1 lakh registrations during Season 7 from last year's 6,000 participants. Federal Bank is the title sponsor for this years shopping festival.

The month-long shopping extravaganza is conducted by the Tourism Department in co-ordination with the Industries & Commerce Department, Finance Department and Local Self Government Departments. Through this shopping festival, the Kerala Government aims to launch "Shopping Tourism" in the state.

MediBizTV World's first 24 hour Health Channel from Kerala

22 December, 2013: MediBizTv, world's first 24-hour health care television channel has been launched from Kochi yesterday.

The channel will go on air across 130 countries including Asia, AFrica, Australia and Europe and will have programmes dedicated to the health care sector. The channel promoted by BizTV network is headquartered at Kochi.



Medi BizTV is being launched by well being, Marine BizTV, the world’s first global maritime TV channel in association with Aries Marine, the largest Ship design consultancy firm and BizTV Network, producers of two Oscar selected movies DAM999 and Saint Dracula 3D.

Varkala and Munnar ranked in Best Value Index



Five Indian destinations were ranked in the 'Best Value Index' published by  Online hotel search engine Trivago.

Nashik in Maharashtra became the top most Indian destination ranking 21st in the list of 100 Value destinations followed by Varkala-Kerala (28), Jaisalmer-Rajasthan (41), Alibaug- Maharashtra (56) and Munnar-Kerala (60).

Ait Benhaddou in Morocco has been selected as the best value city in the world followed by Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The list has been compiled based on the cost of standard hotel accommodation in a particular destination.

Bus Accident near Munnar, Idukki: 6 Students of Vellanad Sarabhai Institute Dead

Six students has been dead and several injured in the bus accident which had occured at Mullakkanam, near Rajakkad in Idukki district today. The bus involved in the accident was carrying the final year students of Sarabhai Institute, Vellanad Thrissur. The bus which had 45 students (28 boys and 13 girls) was on the way to Munnar.

Startup Village Kochi to offer 1Gbps Connectivity, to become World's fastest


The Start up Village at Kochi has become the second place in the world to offer 1 Gbps internet connectivity.

The facility introduced by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the Startup village is expected to boost the project as the largest telecom incubator in the world.



Before this,  Kansas City at United States was the only place in the world to offer 1Gbps connectivity offered by Google.

12 New Taluks to be formed in Kerala


Twelve new taluks will be formed in Kerala, announced Finance minsiter K.M. Mani, in the budget discussion at the Legislative Assembly. The newly formed taluks will include Manjeswaram, Vellarikund, Iritty, Thamarassery, Kondotty, Pattambi, Chalakudy, Idukki, Pathanapuram, Konni, Varkala and Kattakada.

Kumarakom wins National Tourism Awards 2012


Kerala Tourism and allied industries won four awards in the National Tourism Awards for 2011-12.  Kerala Tourism's rural model in Kumarakom won the national award for best rural tourism project.

 Vivanta by Taj at Kumarakom won the Best Four Star Hotel award whereas Coconut Creek Farm and Home Stay, Kumarakom won in Bed and Breakfast category.

The Best Wellness Centre award went to Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort in Chowara , Trivandrum while Pioneer Personalised Holidays won in the Best Approved Inbound Tour Operator and Travel Agent category.




Andhra Pradesh has bagged the best state award for comprehensive  development of tourism in the rest of India category of National Tourism Award 2011-12.  The Best Heritage city award went to Warangal(AP).

Kochi Airport to get IVFRT Immigration, Visa Online Scanning


The Cochin International Airport will soon launch online Immigration, Visa and Foreigner’s Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) system for scanning of foreigners through the airport.

The IVFRT system to be launched this week will have information about foreign passengers transferred via embassies which will reduce forgery and overstaying.

National Film Awards 2013 Winners: Celluloid, Ustad Hotel, Kalpana wins

The 60th National Film Awards 2013 for the movies censored in the year 2012 has been declared. Hindi film 'Paan Singh Tomar' has been rated as the best film.  Irffan Khan won the best actor for the movie 'Paan Singh Tomar'. The award was shared by Vikram Gokhale for Marathi film 'Anumathi' whereas Usha Yadav won the best actress award for the Marathi film Daag.

Celluloid directed by Kamal won the award for best Malayalam film. Ustad Hotel shared the award for Popular film along with Vicky Donor (Hindi). Thilakan (Ustad Hotel) and Lal (Ozhimuri) got special mention from the jury. Best supporting actress went to Kalpana for the movie 'Thanichalla Njan'. 'Spirit' won the award for Best film on social issues.

Sugathakumari wins Saraswati Samman 2013 for 'Manalezhuthu'

Smt. Sugathakumari has won the most prestigious Saraswati Samman 2013 instituted by the KK Birla foundation. She will receive a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs

The peot won the award for the collection of her poems 'Manalezhuthu'

Earlier Smt. Balamaniamma and Sri. Ayyappa Panicker have received the award.

The award instituted in 1991 is an annual prize given for extra ordinary works in 22 languages in India.

Pension/ Retirement Age of Kerala Government Employees raised to 60

Trivandrum, 15 March 2013: The retirement age of Government employees and teachers in Kerala has been enhanced to 60. The raise in penison age is applicable only for those who enters government service from April 1, 2013. The suggestion was included in the budget in the Page 107, but was not announced by the finance minister during the speech.

Seaplane service to various tourist places in Kerala to be launched


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: Kerala's prestigious project to connect various towns in the state using 'Seaplane' is expected to be inaugurated next month, reports Manorama Daily. The 'Seaplane' project, a first of its kind, Kerala is planning to provide air connectivity through air to 20 tourist destinations across the state.



The Government is awaiting the available dates of Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh's available dates for launching the project in April.

KSEB announces Labhaprabha; consumers to get money back for saving electricity


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: Kerala State Electricity Board KSEB has announced a campaign named 
'Labhaprabha' which will return money back to the customer for saving electricity.

The 'Labhaprabha' scheme will work in two folds, one will focus on earning ‘energy credits’ for the customer for saving electricity and the other a ‘no load-shedding’ drive in return.

The scheme which will be launched on March 23 (Earth Day) will run till May 31, 2013. During this period the consumers can avail 50% savings on every unit of electricity saved. For example if the consumer saves 10 units he will be entitled to get cash  worth the price of 5 units. This will be an additional savings apart from the regular savings in the form of reduced electricity bill. A no load-shedding drive will also be launched in areas which saves 10% electricity.



Consumers can join the Labhaprabha scheme by registering through sms. Weekly prizes and bumper prizes including Solar lanterns, table lamps, CFL lamps will also be given to the consumers who save more electricity.

Malayala Manorama turns 125


Kottayam, 14 March 2013: The 125th anniversary celebrations of Malayala Manorama daily  will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherji in a function to be held on 16th March at Kottayam. The postal stamp in connection with  the 125th jubilee will be released on that day.

The event will be attended by Union minister Kapil Sibal, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan etc.

The Jubilee song penned by poet ONV Kurup will be rendered by L. Subramaniam and Kavitha Krishnamurthy.

Malayala Manorama daily founded in 1888 March 14, currently publishes 18 editions from India and abroad. the newspaper has a circulation of 21.29 lakhs and an approximate readership of 97 lakhs.
