Kanakakkunnu palace biodiversity in Mobile Application

A post graduate Botany student, Akhilesh S V Nair along with his Professor Dr. A. Gangaprasad has digitised the plants available in the Kanakakunnu palace premises using an Mobile app.

Kanakakunnu palace, the heritage monumental site according to the Indian National Trust for for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), a unique model for conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem management.

Akhilesh Nair has linked the information of the plant species spanning 21 acres of the palace garden using a QR or bar-code that can be scanned using simple mobile application like NeoReader. He has documented 126 species of both tree and garden plants on a website that is linked to the code through the mobile app.

Nissan Digital Hub in Trivandrum

Japanese automobile major Nissan Motor Co. Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Kerala Government to establish a new global centre for digital operations in India.

The digital hub proposed in Trivandrum, is the first  software and information technology hub development that Nissan has planned in Asia, Europe and North America. The hub will be located at Technopark and will be the third venture by Nissan in India apart from one in Chennai and Gurgaon.

The digital hub are expected aide Nissan to provide best-in-class user experiences, product development capabilities, security and connectivity  and electric vehicle technology.

Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister for Kerala and Tony Thomas, CIO, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.,lighted the lamp for the inauguration of the ceremony.

Kit to find harmful chemical in Fish by CIFT, Kochi

Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi has introduced a kit for identifying the presence of harmful chemical such as Ammonia, Formaldehyde etc in fish.

The solution named "Check N Eat" consist of a paper strip, reagent solution, color chart. The paper strip after made into contact with the fish has to be dipped in the solution. Presence of harmful chemicals can be identified with the help of colour chart.

The kit is been developed by Dr. K. Ashok Kumar, Dr. AA Sainudin, Dr. SK Pandey, SJ laly, ER Priya,  scientists of CIFT, Kochi.

KSEB launches Official Online payment mobile app

Kerala State Electricity Board has launched its official online payment facilities for electricity bills.

As per the new system, the electricity bill amount can be automatically debited from the customers bank account and creditied into the KSEB account. For this the customer has to fill an OTM mandate to the Bank.

A new mobile has been launched to facilitate e-payment over the mobile phone. 

The KSEB official app is the latest offering and self service facility for customers from KSEB Limited which extends a host of features.

The features include:
• A personalised My Account for registered Consumers (Registration can be done in a minute on wss.kseb.in in new user registration section)
• Quick Pay facility for payments without registration
• View consumer profile
• Manage 5 Consumer numbers in one user account
• Check Bill Details for past 12 months.
• Check Consumption Details for past 12 months.
• Check Payment History for the past 12 months.
• View bill details & pay your monthly bill using credit cards, debit cards, net-banking.
• Notifications alerting bill due date, payment confirmation etc.

One Planet Academy Trivandrum

Trivandrum, 9 November 2017: One Planet Academy (OPA),  the environment education portal in the country was launched by WWF-India in association with Capgemini.

The website available at http://academy.wwfindia.org encourages schools to adopt green practices, offers project and activity ideas for the teachers, along with online training courses, and houses games, comics and interactive maps for the students.

Google Android now supports Malayalam Voice Recognition over GBoard

Google has rolled out voice search support for eight additional Indian languages including Malayalam. Now users can use their voice for search queries on the Google app as well as Gboard app on Android. The app will convert voice to text and provide search activities.

Maruti Dzire 2017 Booking opened

Maruti Suzuki has announced the launch of its compact sedan, the Dzire. Maruti Suzuki Dzire 2017 third generation is different from the previous generation Swift Dzires both in interior and exterior.

The dimensions of the car has been reworked and now comes with At 3,995mm in length, 20mm wider and a 40mm shorter in height. The wheelbase has been increased to 2,450mm giving more legroom for rear passengers. The boot space has been increased by 60-litres, ground clearance has been reduced by 7mm and the vehicle is now lighter by 105 kilograms.

The car will also flaunt tablet sized infotainment system at the centre of dash for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link.

Maruti has started accepting bookings for the upcoming third generation of the Dzire compact sedan. Prospective customers can now pre-book the sedan for a token amount of Rs 11,000 at company dealerships. The new Dzire is scheduled for launch on May 16.

Govt of India Sovereign Gold Bonds Scheme

The Government of India will be launching the Sovereign Gold Bonds Scheme soon. As investors will get returns that are linked to gold price, the scheme is expected to offer the same benefits as physical gold. They can be used as collateral for loans and can be sold or traded on stock exchanges.

The series I (2017-2018) of Sovereign Gold Bond scheme is open for subscription from 24th - 28th April,2017. Sovereign Gold Bonds are Government securities denominated in multiples of gram(s) of gold. They are substitute for investment in physical gold. To buy the bond, investor has to pay the issue price in cash to an authorised SEBI Broker. On redemption, cash is deposited into the investor's registered bank account. These Bonds are issued by the Reserve Bank of India on behalf of the Government of India and are traded on stock exchange.

BENEFITS

The Sovereign Gold Bonds will be available both in demat and paper form.

The tenor of the bond is for a minimum of 8 years with option to exit in 5th, 6th and 7th years.

They will carry sovereign guarantee both on the capital invested and the interest.

Bonds can be used as collateral for loans.

Bonds would be allowed to be traded on exchanges to allow early exits for investors who may so desire.

Capital gain tax arising on redemption of SGB to an individual has been exempted. The indexation benefit will be provided to LTCG arising to any person on transfer of bonds. The department of revenue has said that they will consider indexation benefit if bond is transferred before maturity and complete capital gains tax exemption at the time of redemption.

Sovereign Gold Bonds will be issued on payment of rupees and denominated in grams of gold. Minimum investment in the bond shall be 1 grams. The bonds can be bought by Indian residents or entities and is capped at 500 grams.

Investors can apply for the bonds through scheduled commercial banks and designated post offices. NBFCs, National Saving Certificate (NSC) agents and others, can act as agents. They would be authorised to collect the application form and submit in banks and post offices.
BSE and NSE are included as receiving offices, apart from the commercial banks, SHCIL, designated post offices

Jio DTH, Broadband Service to be launched in Trivandrum

Jio is planning to launch its Jio DTH service very soon. Jio is planning to provide a smart setup box with Jio broadband connection which will offer high internet speed and you can watch TV channels online using that Internet Setup box. SunTec Business Solutions to promote entrepreneurship amongst students.

CDAC Mobile Application for Women Safety

The Centre for Development for Advanced Studies developed an android based application that could be downloaded and used by all mobile phone users in the country.The application helps the threatened victim to sent an alert or distressed signal to the police control room.

 The executive director of C-dac also made it clear that the application could be integrated into a wrist watch or handy electronic personal device that could be easily used. The personal devices should be electronically integrated to the police control room. As soon  as the signal is received, the police could detect the current location and image of the victim and can sent the patrol vehicle from the nearest station to the victim. This new initiative can ensure safety and security to all the people across the country, especially to the most vulnerable victims like women and children.
