Uber, Ola, Taxis to resume services in Green and Orange Zones.

The Government of Kerala has given nod to resume operations for online taxi services and other taxis in green and orange zones. The trips will be conducted by strictly adhering to the precautionary guidelines issued by the government, said operators. The Chief minister on Saturday said that inter-district service can be conducted for necessary requirements in green and orange zones. The taxi services can operate with one driver and two passengers.

Silver Line Kerala Semi High Speed Rail K-Rail Silver Line Alignment Map Stations

Thiruvananthapuram – Kasaragod Semi High-Speed Rail (Silver Line) Project is to be executed in the near future. The K-Rail Board has approved the detailed project and aligment report as per the proposal.

The 532 km SHSR corridor named Silver Line railway will connect Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram at a total travel time to less than 4 hours, compared with the present 10 to 12 hrs.

Silver Line will bring remarkable changes in local commute, by improving the travel time and quality of transportation. Every kilometre travelled by a person on semi high-speed rail is a kilometre not travelled in an automobile. There will be a substantial reduction in road accidents due to decongestion on roads. Silver Line also provides last mile connectivity using aggregate services and feeder services, which will transform people’s perception towards public transportation.

The Silverline project is undertaken by K-Rail, Kerala Rail Development Corporation, a joint venture company of Government of Kerala and Ministry of Railways for the infrastructure development of railways in Kerala.

Now Mobile Phone service at your doorstep during COVID-19

Trivandrum, 22 April 2020: The Kerala Mobilephone Vyapara Samithi has launched free mobile phone servicing for policemen, fireforce staff, health workers and others on essential duty during the lockdown against COVID-19

The initiative was first launched in Kozhikode and extended to Trivandrum and Kochi.

The mobile phone techicians visit the phone owners. The service is done free of cost and charges are levied for spare parts only. Some minor components are replaced free of cost too.

The service has been launched in Thiruvananthapuram at the electronics hub of Thakaraparambu, in association with the city corporation.

Books by Bicycle : Get books on your doorsteps with discounts

 Bicycle buffs in Kerala capital have launched an initiative to help bibliophilies by bringing their favourite books to their doorsteps. "Books By Bicycle"is an initiative by the bicycle lovers in Thiruvananthapuram,led by the Cycle Mayor Prakash P Gopinath.

 They offer the service of delivering English and Malayalam books and children''s literature at the consumers'' doorsteps that too with great discounts. All the leading book houses including the DC Books, Mathrubhoomi Books, Poorna Books, Chintha Books, Green Books, Cost Ford, Maithri Books and Modern Books collaborate with Books by Cycle.

KSEB: No fines upto 3rd May, Meter reading to start on 20th April

April 18, 2020: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has informed that there will no fines on electricity bills which are paid till May 3rd, 2020. Cash counters will not be operational at offices upto May 3. The meter reading will begin from April 20 onwards only.

No Car ACs, Wear Masks post Lockdown: Kerala MVD submits recommendations

The Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has submitted recommendations for travelling in private and public transport in the state after the lockdown is lifted.

Some of the recommendations is as follows:
Air conditioning should not be allowed in vehicles. Window glasses should be kept open.

Only a driver and two passengers will be allowed to travel in a car.

Curtains, bedsheets and food distribution will not be available in buses.

Odd even registrations number system will be implemented.

All passengers in the public transport should wear masks

Interstate buses should be disinfected at checkposts before entering the state.

Zomato Online Grocery Delivery at Trivandrum

Zomato India has announced the company has begun online grocery delivery in more than 80 cities in India. The expansion of online delivery of groceries results from Covid-19 lockdown. 

 Zomato has also teamed up with SupplyCo for online delivery and delivery of  groceries will be available in cities such as Kochi, Trivandrum, Kottayam and Thrissur in Kerala.

Is my location Covid19 affected: Aarogya Setu App

Government of India has launched an app to track Covid-19 patients in the country named Aarogya Setu. The Aarogya Setu app is available to download on Android and iOS devices.

The app which is available upon registration by providing name, locations, age, details regarding covid contact plans to develop a database of Corona affected patients in the country. The app offers users to check whether a Covid affected patient is nearby using the location of the user via GPS, bluetooth etc.

Blue Telemed App launched for Online Consultation in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police in association with the Indian Medical Association  (IMA) has launched an online consultation app. The app called Blue Telemed provides online consultation through smartphones. The app has been developed by BlueEHR in association with Kerala Police Cyberdome.

Around 100 doctors has been added to the app for online consultation. The launch of the new app will be a boon to many people who has been affected by the COVID-19 situation.

The Blue Telemed app features video calling options, issue e-prescriptions, e-pass etc.

Functioning of Ration shops in Kerala Lock down 2020

Government of Kerala ha announced a pattern for purchase of ration from ration shops in the state. From April 1st onwards, those with ration card number ending 0 and 1 can buy the rice on the first day (Wednesday). Similarly the following pattern has to be maintained

April 1 - Card number ending in 0,1
April 2 - Card number ending in 2,3
April 3 - Card number ending in 4,5
April 4 - Card number ending in 6,7
April 5 - Card number ending in 8,9


Priority card holders (yellow and pink cards) can purchase rice from ration shops from morning till noon, while the non-priority card holders (blue and white cards) can approach the shops in the afternoon. At a time only five persons will be allowed inside the shop.

Plastic Bottle Recycling machine at Trivandrum Railway Station

A Swachh Bharat Recycling Machine (PET Bottle Recycler Machine) has been installed at Platform No 1 of Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station. The machine will shred plastic bottles into recyclable granules through the reverse vending process.



It has a processing capacity of 500 PET bottles per day and storage capacity of 5000 shredded PET bottles. The PBR Machine is an innovative step for primary treatment of plastic waste by Swaniti Initiative of SPARC program with the Railways materialized by the CSR funding of Jubilant Foodworks Ltd. in partnership with Wild West Innovations.

KTDC Hotel Hostess at Trivandrum Thampanoor Bus Station

Trivandrum: Kerala Tourism Development Corporation KTDC will launch country's first public sector hotel run entirely by women in Trivandrum. The hotel named Hostess will be opened at KTDFC complex at Thampanoor Bus station.

Hostess will offer facilities like automated security features, technology oriented check-ins and check outs, laundry service, complementary breakfast, fitness centre etc. The hotel will be women friendly and target women professionals aiming for short stay in the city.

The Hostess hotel will have 22 AC rooms and two AC dormitories. Rooms will be charged Rs. 1500 per day and dormitory facility will be available at Rs 400 for four hours.

KSRTC Chill Bus Service, Booking, Timings from Trivandrum

Thiruvananthapuram: The regular service of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) Chill Bus began  from the Thampanoor bus terminals.

As many as 210 low-floor AC Volvo buses would be part of the Chill Bus fleet criss-crossing the State with services connecting various destinations every hour from the operating centres in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode.

Household Waste Collection Service in City - V Care Environment Solutions

Bangalore based company V Care Environment Solutions Limited has launched an initiative in the ciry which manages waste on daily basis from household and corporates in the city.

The company manages wastes from  150 flats in the city, major hospitals and IT companies based in Technopark. The company has tied up with City Corporation for expansion.

V Care provides containers to each household and the customers have to segregate the waste into food and human waste. For each waste-filled container, the company charges Rs 200 for organic waste and Rs 100 for inorganic waste.

The waste containers are then shifted to the mini-waste treatment plants at Vellarada and adjoining villages by the technicians of the company. From there, the waste are treated and converted into fertilizer.

 A mobile application is also available for customers can alert the technicians on the waste.

Hire Autorickshaws Online at ‘Vehicle ST smart auto’ in Trivandrum

‘Vehicle ST smart auto’, an app based ride booking service has been lauched in Trivandrum. Unlike the popular taxi cab service, Vehicle ST smart auto is an autorickshaw booking app. The app has been launched by Bangalore based startup company ‘VehicleST.com’.

Trivandrum is the first city in Kerala which features this app-connected auto service.



The passengers can locate autos through the app and contact the nearest driver through the phone number listed in the app. The autorickshaws are equipped with a tablet which greets the passengers in the auto which gives details of the driver. The passenger can enter the destination, monitor the route, estimated time and speed of auto and browse internet for free. The tablet also contains an emergency button connected to the police control for ensuring safety to the passengers. Passengers can also rate the ride quality and behaviour of the driver too.

KSRTC launches Sleeper Bus from Trivandrum to Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore



Trivandrum, 7 July, 2018: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to start inter-State sleeper class bus services to Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Mysuru.

The KSRTC will operate air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned sleeper class services with 32 berths each from nine depots in the State to compete against the private  interstate contract carriers.

The sleeper services will be available in the Thiruvananthapuram- Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram- Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram- Mysuru, Kottayam- Bengaluru, Ernakulam- Bengaluru, Ernakulam- Mysuru, Thrissur- Bengaluru, Palakkad- Bengaluru and Kozhikode- Bengaluru sectors.

KSRTC Fly Bus from Trivandrum, Nedumbassery, Karipur Airports

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, (KSRTC) has launched a new service named Fly Bus which will operate from International Airports in the state.

The 42-seater air-conditioned new bus service will connect Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin and Karipur International airports to the nearest cities.

The Fly Bus will operate every 45 minutes round the clock from the premier airport of the State in the capital to East Fort and Thampanoor, every 30 minutes from Cochin international airport in Nedumbaserry to Vyttila and every one hour from Karipur airport international to Kozhikode.

The fares of the Fly Bus will be the same in the low floor air conditioned buses. The timings of the buses will coincide with the flight arrivals and will be displayed in the terminals.

KSRTC Electric Bus in Trivandrum

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation  (KSRTC) has launched its first electric bus on Monday in Trivandrum. The fully charged e-bus can cover a distance about 350 Kilometres.

The ticket fare will be equal to city AC low floor buses. KSRTC will carry out a trial run in Thiruvananthapuram for first five days. Later it will continue trial run in Ernakulam and then in Kozhikode.



Some of the salient features of these battery electric vehicle (BEV) buses are reduced noise pollution, disc breakes with anti-lock braking system, kneeling mechanism for person with disabilities, senior citizens and pregnant woman, CCTV cameras  and GPS tracking. The cost of the e-bus is estimated to be Rs 2.5 crore. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that if the services are successful, they will roll out around 300 electric buses for service throughout the state.
