First ever Indian Bala Krishi Shastra Congress at Trivandrum


Trivandrum, 19 January 2012: The first ever Bala Krishi Shastra Congress in India will be held at Trivandrum Public Library from 20th January 2012 onwards.

The Childrens Agriculture Science Congress  is organised by Agri-Friends in association with  Kerala Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change and State Horticulture Mission.



More than 500 students are expected to participate in the two day event which will have over 100 project papers preseneted. Seven projects will be shortlisted and the best project will receive cash award of Rs. 11,111.

An agricultural exhibition showcasing seeds, plants, farm equipments etc will be organised by the students in connection with the science congress.

3rd India IT Summit 2012 Trivandrum


Trivandrum, 19 January 2012: The third annual India IT summit organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be held at Trivandrum from 19th January 2012.  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the function at Vivanta Taj on January 19.

The two day summit will feature over 20 eminent technocrats from India and abroad an 300+ delegates. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Executive Vice Chairman, Infosys; Ganesh Lakshminarayan, President, Dell India; Avinash Vashistha, CMD, Accenture India; V Ramaswamy, Sr. VP, TCS; Sudhir Nair, Sr. VP, Mahindra Satyam; Pradeep Udhas; Executive Director, KPMG and Roopa Kudwa, MD & CEO, CRISIL are some of the speakers who will attend the function.



Organized by the CII Kerala, the India IT Summit is an annual event where key influencers globally are invited to deliberate and discuss issues pertaining to the IT industry. The 2012 edition of the event would consist of 4 plenary sessions spread over two days of deliberation and discussion. The theme of the event is ‘Business Strategies for Non-Linear Growth’.

Senior Government Officers, CXOs from IT and other industries, officials of Industry associations/ professional forums, senior members from academia, political leaders and key influencers of society are expected to attend the event.

Kerala Strikers vs Mumbai Heroes at Kochi on January 22, 2012


Trivandrum, 19 January 2012: The first match of the Kerala Strikers cricket team in the celebrity cricket league in Kerala will be held on January 22, 2012 at Jawaharlal Nehru  Stadium, Kochi. Kerala Strikers will take on Mumbai Heroes in the second match of the team.

The team will play their first match of the tournament at Hyderabad on 21st January against the Chennai Rhinos.



Meanwhile actor Prithviraj and Asif Ali will not feature in the Kerala side for the upcoming Celebrity cricket team matches. Prithviraj has been  dropped for the first two matches, whereas Asif Ali cannot play any of the matches. Both the actors failed to turn up for the practice sessions which made the team coach Chandrasenan to keep them out.

Team vice-captain Indrajith is expected to open the innings with Nivin Poly.

Golden Jubilee of Panchayati Raj


Trivandrum, 19 January 2012: Government of Kerala has decided to celebrate the golden jubilee of implementation of  Panchayati Raj system in connection with the Republic Day 2012. A grama yatra will be conducted in all 140 assembly constitutencies on January 26 which will start from Thrissur.

Also a global rural meet will be organised in the state which will be participated by foreign delegates from Asian countries.

Adaminte Makan Abu out of Oscar race


Trivandrum, 19 January 2011: Adaminte Makan Abu, India's official entry to the Oscar Awards in the Best Foreign Language film has failed to get an entry to the shortlist which comprises of final nine films.

The movie directed by Salim Ahmed featuring Salim Kumar and Sarina Wahab won many awards both in the state level and the national level in the year 2011. The film was earlier recommended as the official entry from India by the jury headed by JP Dutta.



 Adaminte Makan Abu was the second malayalam film to be selected as an Official Entry to Oscars from India. The first Malayalam movie for Oscar entry was Guru directed by Rajiv Anchal starring Mohanlal in the year 1997.  Eventhough India over 40 films to Oscars in foreign language category over the years, no Indian film has ever won the award.

However, the movie Dam 999 directed by Sohan Roy has been nominated for the best music category in the forthcoming Oscar Awards.

Buy 5 Chapatis, Chicken curry for Rs. 25 from Central Jail, Poojappura


Trivandrum, 18 January 2012: The Central Prison at Poojappura, Trivandrum will start marketing the 'Made in Jail' chapati, chicken curry and vegetable curry from today onwards.



The Chapatis which is priced Rs. 2 per piece will be available along with veg and non-veg curries. A packet of 5 chapathis and chicken curry will be available for Rs. 25 whereas 5 chapatis and vegetable curry will be available for Rs. 20 only. Separate packets of curry will not be available. The dishes will be sold to general public via the outlet opened in front of the central jail.

Kerala Medical/Engineering Entrance Exam 2012 Apply Online, Prospectus, Time table


Trivandrum, 18 January 2012: The Kerala Medical and Engineering entrance exams 2012 conducted by the Office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala will be held from April 23 to April 26. 600 crore to make the city free from water logging


Trivandrum, 18 January 2012: A detailed project for making the capital city free from water logging has been planned in the government level,  Chief Minsiter Oommen Chandy and minister for Transport VS Sivakumar told reporters at a press conference here.

The plan will be implemented in three phases with 27, 98 and 505 crore money to be spend in each phase. The project will include cleaning and waste disposal of Karamana, Killi rivers, Ulloor, Amayinchan, Pattom canals etc.

Unnathi: A Kudumbasree Programme For Women in IT

Trivandrum, January 18, 2012: Kudumbasree has formed a state level consortium of IT units called 'Unnathi' to boost the entrepreneurial acumen of women in the IT sector.

The head office of the Unnathi will be in Thrissur. The group willfocus on upgrade of IT infrastructure and skills development in addition to facilitating access to expert assistance.

Kerala PSC Recognised Computer Courses


Trivandrum, 17 January 2012: Kerala Public Service Commission has shortlisted the computer courses which are recognised for  appointment of Assistant to Secreatariat, Local Fund Audit, PSC, Vigilance Tribunal, AG office etc.

Fifteen computer courses conducted by various institutions in the state are included in the list. Kerala School Arts Festival (School Kalolsavam) 2012 Live, Winners List Online

Trivandrum, 15 January 2012: The 52nd Kerala State School Arts Festival (School Kalolsavam) 2012 will be held at Thrissur, Kerala from January 16 to 22. The event to be held in 17 venues will have 10,000+ students perforning in 218 events.

The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at 4pm on 16th January. The inauguration will be preceeded by a colourful cultural procession.

Biggest Shopping Mall in Trivandrum - KSIE Complex at Thampanoor


Trivandrum, 15 January 2012: The biggest shopping complex in Trivandrum will be set up by  Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited (KSIE) at Thampanoor soon.

The mall will have eleven storeys and parking space of two lakh square feet which will accomodate 175 cars in the first two floors. The second and third floors will offer shopping space, fourth floor with dining and entertainment facilities, fifth to eleventh floor will be for premium office spaces. Separate entry will be given for both shopping space and office spaces.

The mall will come up in the 1.27 acre land at the SS Kovil Road, Thampanoor and is expected to be
