ESAF Small Finance Bank Branches, Services, Phone Number



17 March 2017: ESAF Small Finance Bank, Kerala's first private sector bank since 1947, will be launched today by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

ESAF Microfinance from Thrissur-based Evangelical Social Action Forum (ESAF) is the promoters of ESAF Small Finance Bank, and is one of the 10 firms selected by the RBI for setting up small finance banks.

ESAF Small Finance Bank, which is planning to set up 85 branches in the first year, will open with 15 branches on the inaugural day. ESAF's small bank targets Rs 20000 crore business by 2020

The bank will focus on Micro banking, MSME financing, home and agriculture loans.

ESAF Microfinance, which is among the ten financial services firms selected by RBI for setting up small finance banks, currently has a network of 285 branches spread over 11 states. Of this 104 branches are in Kerala. The bank aims to expand its total number of branches to 500 and appoint over 10,000 banking correspondants by 2022.

Kumarakom wins National Tourism Awards 2012


Kerala Tourism and allied industries won four awards in the National Tourism Awards for 2011-12.  Kerala Tourism's rural model in Kumarakom won the national award for best rural tourism project.

 Vivanta by Taj at Kumarakom won the Best Four Star Hotel award whereas Coconut Creek Farm and Home Stay, Kumarakom won in Bed and Breakfast category.

The Best Wellness Centre award went to Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort in Chowara , Trivandrum while Pioneer Personalised Holidays won in the Best Approved Inbound Tour Operator and Travel Agent category.




Andhra Pradesh has bagged the best state award for comprehensive  development of tourism in the rest of India category of National Tourism Award 2011-12.  The Best Heritage city award went to Warangal(AP).

National Film Awards 2013 Winners: Celluloid, Ustad Hotel, Kalpana wins

The 60th National Film Awards 2013 for the movies censored in the year 2012 has been declared. Hindi film 'Paan Singh Tomar' has been rated as the best film.  Irffan Khan won the best actor for the movie 'Paan Singh Tomar'. The award was shared by Vikram Gokhale for Marathi film 'Anumathi' whereas Usha Yadav won the best actress award for the Marathi film Daag.

Celluloid directed by Kamal won the award for best Malayalam film. Ustad Hotel shared the award for Popular film along with Vicky Donor (Hindi). Thilakan (Ustad Hotel) and Lal (Ozhimuri) got special mention from the jury. Best supporting actress went to Kalpana for the movie 'Thanichalla Njan'. 'Spirit' won the award for Best film on social issues.

Honda launches CB Trigger 150

Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the launch of its latest motorcycle named Honda CB Trigger. The CB Trigger is a 150 cc motorcycle and is the fourth in its 150 cc portfolio which includes CB Unicorn, Dazzler and CBR150R.

The bike is the first in India to get the Honda's Combi Brake System (CBS) in which the front and the rear brakes are applied simultaneously by the machine to avoid skidding.

The Trigger features a four-stroke, 149.1cc, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine with 5 speed gearbox. The motorcycle is offered in three variants – CB Trigger Standard features front disc brake, CB Trigger Deluxe features front and rear disc brake, CB Trigger CBS features front and rear disc brake with Combi Brake System.   The Honda CB Trigger is available in three colours namely Pearl Siena Red, Meteor Green Metallic and Black.



The CB Trigger will be launched in May 2013 at showrooms and will compete against the Yamaha FZ series and Bajaj's Pulsar portfolio. The bike is expected to be priced around 80,000/-

Pathiramanal Malayalam Film


Pathiramanal (Ithu Pathiramanal), Malayalam action movie directed by M. Padmakumar will be released in theatres on 15th March 2013. The movie features Unni Mukundan, Jayasurya, Remya Nambeesan, Samuthirakani in the lead roles.

The movie has a very interesting plot of revenge in which a son comes in search of his mothers rapist to Pathiramanal, a place in Kuttanad where he fells love with his daughter.

The movie has been rated with 'A' certificate.

Cochin Music Challengers: Cricket Team by Malayalam Playback Singers


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: The playback singers of the Malayalam film industry has set up their own cricket team. The team named Cochin Music Challengers (CMC) has been launched in the lines of the celebrity cricket teams and consist of noted Malayalam playback singers.



The team members include Madhu Balakrishnan, Afsal, Pradeep Babu, Reju Joseph, Rafeeq Rahman, Yasir, Ansar, Manaf, Nazeer, Baiju, Anvar etc. Ramesh Babu is the captain of the team and Sunil Pallan is the coach. Female singers including Jyotsna, Sayanora etc are the brand ambassadors of the team.

Fahad Fazil in love with Andrea Jeremiah


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: Popular actor and youth icon Fahad Fazil has found his lady love, its none other than his co-actress Andrea Jeremiah of the movie Annayum Rasoolum. The hidden love affair was revealed by the actor himself in an interview published in the Vanitha magazine.



As per the report Fahad fell in love with the actress during the post-production work of the movie at Chennai.

KSEB announces Labhaprabha; consumers to get money back for saving electricity


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: Kerala State Electricity Board KSEB has announced a campaign named 
'Labhaprabha' which will return money back to the customer for saving electricity.

The 'Labhaprabha' scheme will work in two folds, one will focus on earning ‘energy credits’ for the customer for saving electricity and the other a ‘no load-shedding’ drive in return.

The scheme which will be launched on March 23 (Earth Day) will run till May 31, 2013. During this period the consumers can avail 50% savings on every unit of electricity saved. For example if the consumer saves 10 units he will be entitled to get cash  worth the price of 5 units. This will be an additional savings apart from the regular savings in the form of reduced electricity bill. A no load-shedding drive will also be launched in areas which saves 10% electricity.



Consumers can join the Labhaprabha scheme by registering through sms. Weekly prizes and bumper prizes including Solar lanterns, table lamps, CFL lamps will also be given to the consumers who save more electricity.

Kerala Film Critics Award 2013


Trivandrum/Kerala,, 12 March 2013: Malayalam movie 'Celluloid' directed by Kamal which tells the story of the JC Daniel, the first film-maker in Malayalam bagged the best movie award in the Kerala Film Critics Association. Kamal was selected as the best director and Lal was adjudged as the best actor for the movie 'Ozhimuri'.

Swetha Menon  bagged the best actress award for the movie 'Ozhimuri' and 'Ithra Maathram'.  Ozhimuri directed by Madhupal became the second best film.

Nedumudi Venu was selected for the Chalachitra Ratnam Award and Jerry Amaldev, Jayabharathi and Poojappura RAvi have been selected for the Chalachitra Prathibha award for their overall contribution for the Malayalam film industry.

Kerala M-Governance: SMS Formats 537252


Trivandrum, 3 January 2013: The Government of Kerala has introduced M-Governance through which the citizens can avail government services on their mobile phone on 24/7 basis.

Project M-Governance, currently being implemented by the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) with technical help from  MobME Wireless is the first of its kind project in India.

About 110 sms short codes have been created for various government department for this service. For eg: To receive the SSLC results send the SMS SSLC  Register No  ( SSLC Space Register No)  eg: Compose an SMS in the format  SSLC 12345 , where 12345 may be replaced with your actual register NO and Send the Same to the No 537252.

Services such as Sabarimala Alerts, Lottery results, Electricity Bills, Water Bills, KSRTC timings are offered through the M-Governance. The complete list of sms services offered is as follows

Samsung becomes World's No.1 Mobile Phone Manufacturer


Samsung has dethroned Nokia as the Top Cell Phone Brand in 2012. The company has also taken decisive lead over Apple in the sale of smartphones. Nokia was pushed to second spot after 14 years since 1998.

Samsung has a market share of 29% whereas Nokia slipped to second spot with 24% compared to 30% last year. The market share of other brands during the year 2012 is as follows

M.I.A to perform live in Kochi, her first stage show in India


Trivandrum, 15 December 2012: Oscar nominated singer M.I.A will be seen in her first live stage performance in India at the Kochi biennale. The Sri Lankan born artiste Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam aka M.I.A, who won an Academy nomination in song writing for "Slumdog Millionaire".

She will be seen teaming up with the drummers led by "chenda" drummer Panamanna Sasi and his 45-member team at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.



 M.I.A. who began her career in 2000 has risen  to prominence in early 2004 for her singles "Sunshowers" and "Galang", charting in the UK and Canada and reaching number eleven on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales in the US, she has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize.

Sta. Nina wins IFFK 2012 Suvarna Chakoram




Trivandrum, 14 December 2012:  The Philippines film Sta. Nina directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo bagged the prestigious Suvarna Chakoram (The Golden Crow Pheasant Award) in the International Film Festival of Kerala 2012.

 Francisca Silva received the best director award Rajata Chakoram (The Silver Crow Pheasant Award) for her movie Ivan’s Woman. The best debut film award went to Filmistaan directed by Nitin Kakkar. The Audience Prize Rajata Chakoram was given to Shutter directed by Joy Mathew which was rated as best by delegates. The Iranian film The Last Step, directed by Ali Mosaffa  and Senegal film Today directed by Alain Gomis got Special Jury mention.

Apart from the awards, Suvarna Chakoram carried a cash prize of 15 lakhs to be shared by the director and producer of the film. The winner of Rajata Chakoram got rupees 4 lakhs whereas the Rajata Chakoram for best debut film carried rupees 3 lakks.  The Audience Prize Rajata Chakoram got rupees 2 lakhs.
The film Shutter voted by audience got 4.15 points whereas Nitin Kakkar’s Hindi film positioned behind with 4.10 points. The film I.D directed by Kamal K M touched the third position in the rating preference.




The film The Repentant, which portrayed the life a ex-terrorist, was selected for FIPRESCI award. FIPRESCI award for the best Malayalam film was given to Ithramatram directed by K Gopinath. The FIPRESCI awards are instituted by the International Federation of Film Critics. The film I.D, directed by Kamal K M got NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Film Centre) award for the best Asian Film in competition. NETPAC award for the Malayalam film went to Ee Adutha Kalathu directed by Arun Kumar Arvind. Manoj Kana’s  Chayiliam got Hassan Kutty Award for debut Indian film.

The award for the best iffk reporter in print media was shared by  R Rins of Metro Vartha and K Pradeep of Janmabhumi. The award for the best iffk TV reporter was also shared by Deepa Kelad (Manorama News) and Safir Salaam (India Vision). Parvathy Nair of Big FM got the best radio iffk reporter and Manorama Online was selected for best online IFFK reports.

The awards were given away by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a grand gala closing ceremony held at Nishagandhi Auditorium here. K C Joseph, Minister for Culture and Rural Development  presided over the function. K B Ganeshkumar distributed various media awards the awards for the best reportage on the film festival.  Filmmaker Priyadarsan, IFFK Jury Chairman Paul Cox, NETPAC Jury Member Park Sung Ho, FIPRESCI Jury Chairman Gyorgi Karpati, Filmmaker T K Rajivkumar, Chalachitra Academy Vice Chairman Gandhimati Balan, IFFK Artstic Director Bina Paul were among the participants.

A musical performace  ‘Thalayanam’ by noted Thavil maestro  Karunamoorthy lend a cheerful twist to closing ceremony.

The IFFK opened a week ago with the screening of the silent movie The Ring by celluloid legendary Hitchcock. The screening  accompanied by a live orchestra by a team led by famous jazz sensation Soweto Kinch left behind a memorable experience. A total of 14 movies were screened in competition and most of them were fascinating for the audience. The world cinema category which contained a lot of present day reel depictions along with films of masters like Abbas Kiarostami, Aki Kaurismaki, Bernardo Bertolucci, Ken Loach, Kim Ki-Duk, Lars von Trier, Paolo Sorrentino, Raul Ruiz and Walter Salles. 25 films of 24 women filmmakers lend gender prominence to the festival.

GKSF Online Video Quiz - Grand Kerala Shopping Festival


As a part of the South Indian Bank Grand Kerala Shopping Festival to be inaugurated tommorrow, a daily online video quiz is being introduced for the  netizens the chance to win one smartphone every day for 45 days and three mega prizes.
