7th Signs Film festival 2013



Trivandrum, 5 January 2013: The 7th Signs Film festival will be held from February 10-15 at Trivandrum. The festival will showcase digital videos featuring national level competition for documentaries and short fiction for the prestigious John Abraham National Awards invites entries for its 7th edition.

This year noted Kannada artist Gireesh Kasaravally will be the chairman of the jury. Around 150 films, short films, documentaries will be exhibited in the festival. For more information visit www.signsfestival.com

Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, interactive 3D applications or video games. Blender's features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, animating, match moving, camera tracking, rendering, video editing and compositing. IFFK 2012 Trivandrum Schedule / Movies


The 17th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2012 will start at Trivandrum tomorrow (7th December 2012) at Nishagandhi auditorium. The film festival will be inaugurated by  Chief Minster Oommenn Chandy in which actor Mohanlal will be chief guest.

Alfred Hitchcock's silent movie 'The Ring' will be the opening film of the  festival.  The inaugural film will be screened with live background score similar to the technique used in 1920s for screening of silent movies. A special team of seven musicians led by noted jazz master Soweto Kinch from Britain have arrived in the state capital exclusively for this purpose.

Around 14 movies will compete in the Competition section for the Golden Crow Pheasant title, seven movies in the 'Indian Cinema Now' and 76 movies in the 'World Cinema' category.

Malayalam Cinema Now showcases the most recent works of contemporary filmmakers Madhupal (Ozhimuri), Manoj Kana (Chayilyam), Dr. Biju (Akasathinte Niram), Lijin Jose (Friday), Arun Kumar Aravind (Ee Adutha Kaalathu), Ranjith (Indian Rupee) and K. Gopinathan (Ithra Maathram).

Benyamin's Goat Days long-listed for Man Asian Literary Prize 2012


Three Indian writers got featured in the Man Asian Literary Prize longlist of 15 authors. Writers Benyamin, Anjali Joseph and Jeet Thayil were listed in the selection list of Asia's most prestigious award for their works 'Goat Days', 'Another Country'  and 'Narcopolis' respectively. The shortlist for this years prize will be announced on January 9, 2013.

Goat Days which is the English translation of Benyamin's hottest selling Malayalam novel Aadujeevitham. It is a moving story about one of the great human concerns of the present century: migration in search of a better life. Benyamin who lives in Bahrain since 1992 is from Kulanada, Pathanamthitta.

Jeet Thayil  born in Kerala, India in 1959 and educated in Hong Kong, New York and Mumbai. He is a performance poet, songwriter and guitarist as well as a writer, and has published four collections of poetry.

Anjali Joseph was born in Bombay in 1978. She read English at Trinity College, Cambridge, and has taught English at the Sorbonne. Her first novel, Saraswati Park, was published by 4th Estate in 2010; it won the Betty Trask Prize, Desmond Elliott Prize, and Vodafone Crossword Book Award for Fiction in India.

The Bathing Women – Tie Ning (China)

The 2011 Man Asian Literary Prize was won by South Korean writer Kyung-sook Shin for her novel "Please Look After Mom".

World Wetlands Celebrations on February 1, 2012: Contests for Children at Kanakakunnu Palace Ground



Trivandrum, January 28, 2012: Aspart of the celebrations to mark World Wetlands Day on February 2, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment in association with Ministry of Environment and Forests conducts a series of competitions for school children on February 1, 2012 at Kanakakunnu Palace Ground.

Competitions will be held in painting, extempore and quiz. The painting contest is for upper primary, high school and plus two students while extempore and quiz contests are for high school and plus two students only.

Literary Nobel Prize Nomination For Poet Sachidanandan


Trivandrum, October 5, 2011: Kerala's favourite Poet, K. Satchidanandan got Literary Nobel Prize nomination.

This is the first time, that a Malayalam literature has been nominated for Nobel Prize. Earlier Madhavykutty got nomination but its for her English poems writter in the name 'Kamaladas'.

Satchidanandan's poem has been translated to many foreign languages like English, Italian, German, French and Arabic.

Mudra Fest 2011 at Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan


Trivandrum 22 September 2011: Mudra Fest 2011, the annual classical dance festival will be held from October 25 to 29 at Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan, Trivandrum.

A National seminar on classical dance including Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Kuchipudi etc will be the highligh of Mudra Festival 2011.
