Decorations, Dolls, Teddy Bears, Cushions inside cars illegal in Kerala



Thiruvananthapuram 7 March 2021:  The government has directed the transport commissioner to take action against cars which carry decorations inside cars.

Most of the people in the state hang decorations like artefacts and garlands on the rear view mirror at the centre of the windshield and also put dolls, teddy bears, cushions in the rear area.

The government observed that these decorations will obstruct the vision of the driver.

Solar Powered Miniature Train at Veli Tourist Village

 Thiruvananthapuram, 4 November 2020: India's first solar powered miniature train and railway has been installed at Veli Tourist Village at Trivandrum. The new toy train system was inaugurated by CM Pinarayi Vijayan through video conference.

The solar powered train was installed as  a part of the 60 crore project for developing Veli Tourist Village to international standards. Visitors can avail the train facility at Rs. 50 for a trip of 40 minutes. The train will equip 48 passengers. 

The railways system is of 2.5 kilometer lenght and is the first in the country. An urban eco park has also been inaugurated at Veli.  A tourist facilitation centre, Convention centre and an Art Cafe will be opened at Veli soon.

182 Indian Railways Passenger Security Phone Number

Indian railway has launched a three digit toll free All India security Helpline Phone number  182.

The facility will provide speedy assistance to the passengers.



Passengers can call this number if they experience theft, pickpocket, left behind luggage, misbehaving to ladies unauthorised persons travelling in ladies coaches any other security issues

Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Express: Train from Manipur to Trivandrum

A new train connecting Barak Valley in Manipur and Mizoram to South India, Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Express was flagged off by Rajen Gohain, Minister of State for Railways in Silchar on November 18. 

The train will run on a weekly basis with 24 coaches consisting of two GSLR, one General class, one General chair car, fourteen Sleeper class, four AC-3 tier, one AC-2 tier and one pantry car.



Timings
12508 Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Express will leave Silchar at 7:55 pm each Thursday to reach Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday at 8:40 pm. The corresponding return journey would be train number 12507, departing from Thiruvananthapuram every Tuesday at 4:55 pm and arriving at Silchar at 7:00 pm on Friday.

12516 Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Express will depart from Silchar at 7:55 pm every Tuesday to reach Thiruvananthapuram on Friday at 8:40 pm and its return journey as train no. 12515 will depart from Thiruvananthapuram every Sunday at 12:40 pm to reach Silchar at 5:15 pm on Wednesday.

The Silchar - Trivandrum express will cover 3935 km in 74.35 hours and will pass through Badarpur, New Halflong, Maibong, Lumding, Hojai, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Howrah, Kharagpur, Cuttak, Bhubneswar, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Katpadi Jn., Salem Jn., Coimbatore and Chennai Central stations.

New Auto Rickshaw Fares 2014-2015



Thrissur, 4 November 2014: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department has announced the revised autorickshaw fares. According to the new fare chart, the minimum charge for travelling a distance of 1.5 kms is Rs. 20. Fare after the minimum travelling distance is Rs. 1 per 100 metre.

Highlights of the fare revision is as follows

Additional fare of 50% of meter charge for travel between 10 pm to 5 am.

Fare between 5 am to 10 pm - Meter charge plus 50% of the amount after substracting Rs. 20 from the  Meter charge. However this is not applicable in Thrissur, Trivandrum, Kollam, Kochi, Kozhikode corporations and Kannur Palakkad and Kottayam towns. In these places only the meter charge will be applicable. For two way journeys fare will be equal to the meter charge.

Waiting charge - 10 rupees per 15 minutes and a maximum of Rs. 250 per day.

Air Asia, Malindo, Air Costa, RAK Airways & ABC Airways to operate from Trivandrum

Five new airlines has expressed interest for starting services from Thiruvananthapuram International airport, reports The Hindu.

The airlines include Air Asia, RAK Airways (UAE),  Malindo Air (Malaysia), ABC Airways (Bangalore), Air Costa (Vijayawada).



Gulf Air which earlier suspended its service to Trivandrum has also announced its new service Thiruvananthapuram-Bahrain- Thiruvananthapuram five times a week.

Varkala and Munnar ranked in Best Value Index



Five Indian destinations were ranked in the 'Best Value Index' published by  Online hotel search engine Trivago.

Nashik in Maharashtra became the top most Indian destination ranking 21st in the list of 100 Value destinations followed by Varkala-Kerala (28), Jaisalmer-Rajasthan (41), Alibaug- Maharashtra (56) and Munnar-Kerala (60).

Ait Benhaddou in Morocco has been selected as the best value city in the world followed by Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The list has been compiled based on the cost of standard hotel accommodation in a particular destination.

Kumarakom wins National Tourism Awards 2012


Kerala Tourism and allied industries won four awards in the National Tourism Awards for 2011-12.  Kerala Tourism's rural model in Kumarakom won the national award for best rural tourism project.

 Vivanta by Taj at Kumarakom won the Best Four Star Hotel award whereas Coconut Creek Farm and Home Stay, Kumarakom won in Bed and Breakfast category.

The Best Wellness Centre award went to Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort in Chowara , Trivandrum while Pioneer Personalised Holidays won in the Best Approved Inbound Tour Operator and Travel Agent category.




Andhra Pradesh has bagged the best state award for comprehensive  development of tourism in the rest of India category of National Tourism Award 2011-12.  The Best Heritage city award went to Warangal(AP).

Seaplane service to various tourist places in Kerala to be launched


Trivandrum, 14 March 2013: Kerala's prestigious project to connect various towns in the state using 'Seaplane' is expected to be inaugurated next month, reports Manorama Daily. The 'Seaplane' project, a first of its kind, Kerala is planning to provide air connectivity through air to 20 tourist destinations across the state.



The Government is awaiting the available dates of Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh's available dates for launching the project in April.

Trivandrum - Kannur Janshatabdi, New Delhi Weekly Trains Announced


Trivandrum, 13 March 2013: Three new trains have been announced for Kerala by Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The new rains include Trivandrum - New Delhi Weekly express, Ernakulam - Kollam MEMU, one via Kottayam and other via Alappuzha.

Other highlights from the budget discussions are

Extension of Trivandrum - Kozhikode Janshatabdi to Kannur
Extension of Kozhikode - Shornur passenger to Thrissur

Kochuveli - Lokmanyathilak express will run twice a week
Mangalore - Bangalore Express will operate via Palakkad twice a week.

IndiGo Trivandrum to Dubai flight announced


March 2, 2013: Low cost airline operator IndiGo airlines has launched eight new flights including Kerala sectors. The company has annoounced domestic routes including Delhi - Kochi, Delhi Chennai, Mumbai - Chennai, Mumbai - Kolkata flights in addition to the current services. The company has announced direct flight from Trivandrum to Dubai.

Currrently IndiGo airlines operates 399 flights connecting 33 destinations and is the leading lowcost carrier in the country.

Rs. 100 Fine for travelling in Ladies seat


The government has decided to impose a fine on passengers sitting in the seats alloted for ladies in state owned and private buses. As per the new law the person will have to pay Rs. 100 as penalty for travelling in the seats allotted for special categories. This will also applicable for the seats reserved for physically handicapped, blind and senior citizens.

The section 111 of the Kerala Motor Vehicles Act 1998 will be modified to this extent.

Currently 25% of the whole seats are reserved as ladies seats.

22208 Trivandrum - Chennai Duronto Express Timings, Coach Position, Reservation


Trivandrum, 14 December 2012: The Trivandrum - Chennai Duronto Express announced in the last Railway budget will start its inaugural run from 15 December 2012.

The Duronto Express with full AC coaches and with no stops will take only 12 hours 45 minutes to travel from Trivandrum to Chennai. Currently it requires 18 hours in express trains.

The schedule and coach composition of the train as per the southern Railway website is as follows

NEW BI-WEEKLY AC DURONTO EXPRESS TRAINS BETWEEN CHENNAI CENTRAL – THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
 T. No.22207 Chennai Central – Thiruvananthapuram AC Duronto bi-weekly express will leave Chennai Central at 16.30 hrs. o­n Tuesdays and Fridays and arrive Thiruvananthapuram at 05.15 hrs. the next day.  T. No.22208 Thiruvananthapuram - Chennai Central AC Duronto bi-weekly express will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 21.30 hrs. o­n Wednesdays and Saturdays  and arrive  Chennai Central at 10.15 hrs. the next day.

      The composition of the above trains will be 1 AC First Class, 3 AC 2-tier and 9 AC 3-tier coaches.

Advance reservation for the above trains will commence o­n 13.12.2012.

KSRTC to offer real-time ticket booking


22nd November, 2012:Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will introduce real-time booking of its long distance buses. Currently tickets can only be booked from the starting station and the vacant seats cannot be filled after the start of the bus.

The service will be made available with the help of electronic ticket machines which would have the technology to inform the number of vacant seats to the server.

This a passenger can reserve ticket from Kollam in a bus from Trivandrum to Ernakulam after checking the availability of vacant seats any time before the bus reaches Kollam.
