The Telecom Career Programme is for fresh engineering graduates seeking employment in the telecom sector.

Sufi Paranja Katha at Trivandrum Sree

Sufi Paranja Katha (What the Sufi said) coming to theaters in Kerala on Feb 19. The film is being released by Central pictures, the reputed distribution house of Malayalam film industry.

This highly anticipated period film is based on KP Ramanunni's popular and award winning novel which is narrated in 8 different languages including English and French. The film talks about the 19th century British Malabar, Kerala's unique culture of shared space between Hindu and Muslim communities, human gods etc.

Sufi Paranja Katha is directed by National award winner Priyanandanan. Sufi is considered to be Priyan's first mainstream feature film with breezy treatment, impressive songs and a strong plot and powerful dialogues. Screenplay is written by the novelist KP Ramanunni, one of most respected literary figures of Kerala today.

Sufi was one of the three Indian films selected into the International competition section of IFFK (International Film Festival of Kerala) 2009. Sufi's premier in IFFK was marked by the biggest crowd witnessed by this edition of the festival and overwhelming reviews and feedback from the audience and media.

Sufi songs which are being telecasted in all major Malayalam channels are rated as the top numbers of this year. Mohan Sitara sets impressive music to the great lyrics written by Rafeeq Ahammed.

The plot of the film revolves around the love and marriage of Karthi, the Hindu heiress of a wealthy Nair Tharavaadu, with Maamootty, a wandering Muslim trader in coconuts and spices. On another plane, the film is about the transformation of Karthi to a Biwi, a local Goddess worshipped by the Hindus and the Muslims alike. Karthi is that perfect, confident woman, who is sufficient unto herself. So magnetic is her personality, that even her own mother venerates her, leading to her alienation and loneliness. The aura around Karthi's celestial persona is powerful enough to reduce the men in her life to impotence.
Bengali actress Sharbani Mukherji enacts Karthi/Suhara, one of the strongest woman charactes of Malayalam literature. International award winner Thampi Antony, New comer Prakash Bare, Veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar, Babu Antony, Indrans, Irshad, Valsala Menon, Gita Vijayan, Samvrutha Sunil and Sunita Nedungadi play the key roles in Sufi. Sufi is the first of three feature films Silicon Media is bringing out in 2010, based on themes of global relevance and directed by talented film makers.

History

The history of Christ Church,Trivandrum goes back to the year 1817. Divine services for the European residents started in 1817. At that time services were conducted once a month by the Military Chaplins of Quilon as per the instructions from the Madras Government. In 1837 a Tamil congregation consisting of employees of the Government Printing press and those working in the homes of Europeans stationed in Trivandrum was formed under the leadership of Mr Christian David, a clerk in the Government press. They met regularly for divine services at the residence of Mr David , while the English congregation met for their worship at the Residency. The need for a permanent place for worship was keenly felt by the members of the two congregations. The Travancore Government was pleased to donate a plot of Land for the construction of a Church building, and on the 13th of December 1858 General Cullen the Resident, laid the foundation stone of the church building in the presence of a distinguished gathering which included the Yuva Raja of Travancore. Bishop Dealtry of Madras consecrated the church on Nov 15, 1859.
In 1876 a Malayalam service was started for the large number of malayalam speaking christians of the town. In 1887 the Indian congregation celebrated its Jubilee, and ' The Trivandrum Indian clergyman's fund ' was started to provide for the salary of an Indian pastor. The Rev P.O Mathen was the first indian pastor of the church.
There were two seperate committees, one for the English section and the other for the Indian section of the church. At the time of Rev Leslie Brown a joint committee was constituted for all the three congregations Tamil, Malayalam and English. A constitution incorporating the new provisions was drawn up and got passed in the general meetings of the European and Indian sections.
In 1947, the question of the Christ Church joining the Church of South India came up. In 1948 it was agreed to accept an interim measure the Metropolitan's proposal to permit the Bishop of Travancore - Cochin Diocese to excercise the episcopal functions in the parish including the appointment of clergy . The Synod of the CSI in its meeting in 1956 resolved to hand over Christ Church to the CSI and from 1956 Christ Church is regarded as a congregation of the CSI under the jurisdicition of the Bishop of Central Travancore and be part of the Central Travancore Diocese (present Madhya Kerala Diocese) until the CSI with the consent of the congregation makes other arrangments.

Trivandrum Flying Club Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology Trivandrum

“Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology”, Thiruvananthapuram , originally established as the “Kerala Flying Club”, was registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 on 14.07.1959. In 1980, the name“ Kerala Flying Club” was changed to Kerala Aviation Training Centre and later in 1981 the Government of Kerala brought the institution under its direct control. Subsequently with the approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation, KATC was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology a Society under the title Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955. The new set up “Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology “ came into effect from 01.06.2006.

The Academy is functioning at the International Airport, Thiruvananthapuram. The Registered office of the Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology is functioning at KEF Complex, Enchakkal, Vallakkadu P.O. Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology has been set by the Govt of Kerala to provide quality training to young aspirant pilots who wish to become future professionals in the booming aviation sector. It is mainly intended to create dynamic young talents in aviation field, to build our national strength by enhancing their skills and attitudes, and equipping them to serve the competitive aviation industry world wide.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

a) Admission is open to Indian Nationals having the qualification as laid down by the Director General of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, (Pass in Pre-Degree or 10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics for Commercial Pilot License and Pass S.S.L.C. or equivalent for Private Pilot License. Those who applied for 10+2 or equivalent examinations and awaited result may also apply for Commercial Pilot License . However; they have to produce the pass certificate before the commencement of flying). 16 years of age at the time of submission of application for admission. Preference with be give to Commercial Pilot License candidates. Those who have passed Director General of Civil Aviation Ground Subjects for Private Pilot License & Commercial Pilot License will be given preference in interview.

b) Prospectus and application forms are available in the office, on payment of Rs. 700/- by Demand Draft in favour of the Executive Director, Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Thiruvananthapuram (payable at Thiruvananthapuram). Both males and females are eligible for admission. The prescribed application form should be filled and sent to the Academy together with attested copies of all the documents specified in the application form.

c) On the basis of the applications received, there will be a written examination / Pilot Aptitude Test on the following subjects:

( All the questions will be objective type based on 10+2 standard)

Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 50% in the written test, will be called for interview.

Trainees of all categories up to the Private Pilot License standard are required to undergo Medical Examination by the doctors approved by Director General of Civil Aviation before the commencement of flying. Forms for the above purpose will be supplied to the successful candidates free of cost.

University of Kerala Trivandrum, Departments

University of Kerala (The University of Travancore ) was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharaja of Travancore, the first Chancellor of the University. Sir C. P Ramaswamy Ayyar, the then Diwan of the State, was the first Vice-Chancellor. It was the sixteenth University to be set up in India.

In 1957, the Kerala University Act, Act 14 of 1957, was brought into force and the University of Travancore was renamed University of Kerala. The area of the jurisdiction of the University of Kerala has been limited to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha Districts and some parts of Pathanamthitta District.

At present, the University has sixteen faculties and 41 departments of teaching and research. There are 157 affiliated colleges. Of these, 46 are aided Arts and Science colleges and 14 are unaided . There are two Law colleges, 17 Engineering colleges , four Medical Collegesseven aided Teachers’ Training colleges, 30 unaided Teacher Training Colleges, four Ayurveda colleges, two Homeopathy colleges, one Sidha Medical College, two Fine Arts Colleges, one Music College, three Dental colleges , four unaided Pharmacy colleges and one college of Physical Education.

During 1997, the University celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The celebration involved the starting of new teaching Departments and setting up of new buildings like the International Youth Hostel at Thiruvananthapuram.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Committee has placed the University at the B++ grade

Christ Nagar School, Trivandrum

Christ Nagar Group of Schools consists of three unaided recognized schools under three different Boards of Education, namely, Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School situated at Kaudiar near Vellayambalam junction in Trivandrum, affiliated to the ICSE / ISC Board, Delhi ,Christ Nagar English Higher Sec. School situated adjacent to Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School under the Kerala State Board of Education, and Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School, situated at Thiruvallam, in the suburban part of Trivandrum affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. The Christ Nagar group of schools is owned and managed by the fathers of religious congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate(CMI) at Christ Hall, the CMI Monastery at Kaudiar, Trivandrum. All the three schools are coeducational.

State School
The school was started in 1976 as unaided English Medium School recognized by the state government of Kerala as minority educational institution. The outstanding academic record consistently maintained by the school under the SSLC Board and its achievements in the co- curricular activities ever since its inception has made it one of the most reputed schools in the State. The year 2002 saw the upgradation of the Christ Nagar English High School to Higher Secondary Level.
Salient Features The school stands for excellence in academic and co-curricular activities of the students. It is a community of students and teachers who live in an atmosphere of a family loving and respecting each other. It has professionally competent and morally upright teachers, who are committed to their lofty vocation of forming the future citizen of our country as per our objectives. It provides enrichment programs to the high achievers special coaching to the promising students, remedial coaching to the weak students and offer counseling facilities to all the students. The school does not allow outside tuition for the students as it deprives the students of their learning time and their creative learning ability and confine them to spoon feeding. There are various programmers in the schools to help the students to develope the creative and aesthetic talents along with their academic growth.

ICSE School
Recognizing the competency and resources of the management of Christ Nagar School in running educational institutions with efficiency, the public pressurized the school authorities to start another school of the national pattern of syllabus and curriculum for children of the parents who has interstate transfer. Thus the Christ Nagar ICSE School was started in 1994; it was upgraded to higher secondary school in 1996 with science and commerce streams in standard XI and XII

CBSE School
Christ Nagar Sr Secondary School (CBSE) started in 1996 under Central Board of Secondary Education in 1996 for the benefit of the central government employees. It was started in the Kaudiar / Vellayambalam Campus of Christ Nagar School and was eventually shifted to Chavarapuram, Thiruvallom the beautiful hillock facing the Arabian Sea near Kovalam beach in the suburb of Trivandrum in August 1998.

Entries have been invited from engineering students from across India who wish to participate in the fifth edition of the national technology innovation contest ‘Tech-Top 2010’ to be held at Technopark in the city from July 29 to 31.

Tech-Top 2010 is organised by Technopark, Degree Controls Inc. of the U.S., the National Research Development Corporation, the Executive Knowledge Lines monthly and the IEEE Kerala chapter. A statement released here on Wednesday said the project ideas should reach the organisers before 4 p.m. on March 31. Home Guards under Kerala Police to control Traffic in Trivandrum

The Trivandrum city police has inducted 210 home guards for traffic management at key points in the city.

The home guards, a majority of them ex-servicemen, had been recruited by the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services as part of a move to raise 3,000 home guards for rescue work and traffic regulation, among other things. They will function under a Commandant General.

Home guards will not be deployed for investigation, administrative work and in assignments involving fire arms. The rural police will also soon get home guards for deployment.

Home guards will have all the powers of traffic wardens. They will not have the powers to check vehicles and impose penalty on erring motorists.

BSNL 3G Trivandrum 3G Activate, SMS, Video call, Mobile TV

Attukal Pongala 2010 Trivandrum Attukal Pongala Festival

The renowned Attukal Pongala celebrations, the 10-day festival of the Attukal Devi temple Trivandrum will start from February 20, 2010. This year's Pongala will be on February 28, Sunday.

Various cultural programmes will be held on all days of the festival at the two venues inside the temple complex. Malayalam film actor Jayaram will inaugurate the cultural programmes on February 20. Kappukettu will be on February 21.

Cultural events will start at 6 pm followed by megashows by noted film stars

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Trivandrum Attukal Temple Online Vazhipadu

The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, located at Attukal in Trivandrum is popularly described as Sabarimala of the Women. The Goddess in the temple of Attukal is worshipped as the Supreme Mother, creator, the preserver and the destroyer. The temple is renowned for the Pongala Mahotsavam which is celebrated during February of every year.

The Myth
Attukal Bhagavathy is supposed to be the divinised form of Kannaki of Chilapathikaram, written by Elenkovadikal. The story goes that after the destruction of ancient city of Madurai, Kannaki left the city and reached Kerala via Kanyakumari and on the way to Kodungalloor took a sojourn at Attukal. Kannaki is supposed to be the incarnation of Parvathy, the consort of Paramasiva. The all powerful and benign Attukal Bhagavathy reigns eternally supreme at Attukal and nurses devotees as a mother does her children. Thousands of devotees from far and near flock to the Temple to bend before the Goddess with awe and reverence to prostrate and redress their affliction and agony.

Pongala Mahotsavam
The Pongala Mahotsavam is the most important festival of Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. The offering of Pongala is a special temple practice prevalent in the southern part of Kerala and some parts of Tamilnadu. It is a ten-day programme commencing on the Karthika star of the Malayalam month of Makaram-Kumbham (February-March) and closing with the sacrificial offering known as Kuruthitharpanam at night. On the ninth day of the festival the world famous Attukal Pongala Mahotsavam takes place. The entire area of about 5 kilometre radius around temple with premises of houses of people of all caste, creed and religion, open fields, roads, commercial institutions, premises of Government offices etc. emerges as a consecrated ground for observing Pongala rituals for lakhs of women devotees assembling from different parts of Kerala and outside. The ceremony is exclusively confined to women folk and the enormous crowd, which gathers in Thiruvananthapuram on this auspicious day is reminiscent of the Kumbhamela Festival of North India.

The 0631 Chennai Central-Kochuveli weekly superfast special will depart from Chennai Central on Wednesdays at 11.30 p.m. to reach Kochuveli at 3.40 p.m. the next day. In the return, the 0632 Kochuveli-Chennai Central weekly superfast special will depart from Kochuveli on Thursdays at 8.10 p.m. to reach Chennai Central at 12.20 noon the next day. It will operate via Kottayam. The days of operation from Chennai Central will be on April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2 and from Kochuveli on April 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3.

The 0651 Ernakulam Junction-Bangalore weekly special will depart from Ernakulam Junction at 6.50 p.m. on Mondays to reach Bangalore the next day at 8.30 a.m. The 0652 Bangalore-Ernakulam Junction weekly special, in the return, will depart from Bangalore at 5.15 p.m. on Tuesdays to reach Ernakulam Junction at 4.20 a.m. The days of operation will be April 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7 and 14.

The 0653 Ernakulam Junction-Bangalore weekly special will depart from Ernakulam Junction at 9.15 p.m. on Thursdays to reach Bangalore at 10 a.m. the next day. The 0654 Bangalore-Ernakulam Junction weekly special will depart from Bangalore at 6.50 p.m. on Fridays to reach Ernakulam Junction at 6.30 a.m. the next day.

The 0641 Nagercoil-Mangalore Junction Weekly Special will depart from Nagercoil at 8.15 p.m. every Monday to reach Mangalore junction the next day at 11.45 a.m. In the return direction, the 0642 Mangalore Junction-Nagercoil will depart at 4 p.m. on Tuesday to reach Nagercoil at 7.50 a.m. The train will run via Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town and Kozhikode and will operate from Nagercoil on April 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7. It will operate via Mangalore from April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1 and 8.

The 0659 Ernakulam Junction-Bangalore Weekly Special will leave Ernakulam Junction at 6.50 p.m. on Mondays from February 15 to March 29 to arrive at Bangalore at 8.30 a.m. the next day.
