Sushiri smallest musical instrument in India by G Jayaprakash

‘Sushiri’ a musical instrument designed by G Jayaprakash of Trivandrum has been recognised as the smallest musical instrument in India.

Sushiri, a wind instrument is 4.5 cm long 1.5 cm broad and 1mm thick. The instrument is recorded in the Limca Book of Records, reports Indian Express.

Swine flu strikes again at Trivandrum

A new H1N1 death has been reported at Trivandrum. A woman aged 19 has died of swine flu at Sree Gokulam Medical College Hospital. The deceased Athira Shiju a post-natal patient under treatment for bilateral pneumonia as per reports.

Meanwhile the state Health Department has issued an alert for Swine flu in the state.

Green Run by TREE, NCC, Uday Samudra at Trivandrum on Environment Day

Green Uday Samudra, an initiative by Uday Samudra, along with Teens Representing Environment Education (TREE) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) will organise a Green Run on June 5, to commemorate World Environment Day. The Green Run will start from the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium and end at Kowdiar Palace in Thiruvananthapuram at 9.30 am. In addition to this, NCC cadets will take part in a plastic waste collection in the city. Both the events will be inaugurated by M Vijayakumar, Minister for Sports and Parliamentary Affairs, Kerala at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium.

According to a company release, around 2,000 people are expected to participate at this annual event. Central Reserve Police Force, Army, Air Force, Kerala Police, Karate School, Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry, Association of Tourism Trade Organisations, India, South Kerala Hoteliers Forum, Pollution Control Board, Club FM, Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and IT firms from Technopark will support this environmental initiative.

3 Swine Flu Deaths at Trivandrum

Three people, two from SAT hospital and one from Medical College has been dead in Trivandrum due to Swine flu (H1N1) this month. Five deaths occured in the state last month of Swine flu.

State Health Department said that they had already taken extra efforts to prevent the spreading of the disease.

Hay Festival Trivandrum 2010

One of the world’s largest literary festivals — the Hay Festival — is coming to India, that too at Trivandrum.

The festival which is annually held in Hay-on-Wye, Wales in the UK during May-June. The festival will be held in Trivanrum during 2010 in Kanakakkunnu Palace, Trivandrum during November.

International authors, Indian authors, local authors will come together for the festival. Noted authors such as Salman Rushdie, Zadie Smith, Sting or even Bill Clinton is expected to be guests for the festival.

The 2009 festival included writers Carol Ann Duffy, David Simon, Stephen Fry, David Nicholls and Melvyn Bragg, scientists Martin Rees and Sabine Bahn, economists Anthony Giddens, Nicholas Stern, Howard Davies and Danny Quah, comedians Dylan Moran, Dara Ó Briain and Sandi Toksvig, and general speakers David Frost, Desmond Tutu, Rowan Williams and Rhodri Morgan.

Kovilan Dead: Novelist Kovilan passes away

Noted Malayalam novelist Kovilan passed away today morning. Kovilan has been admitted at a private hospital at Kunnamkulam, Thrissur last week.

Kovilan whose real name was Kandanisseri Vattomparambil Velappan Ayyappan was born in 9 July 1923.

His noted works include Thattakam (1995), Hhimaalayam (1972),
Thottanngal (1970), A minus B (1958) etc. He is the winner of Ezhuthachan award.

2010 Monsoon arrives in Kerala

After the warmest summer of the century, Kerala received the first rains as part of the south-west monsoon.

Indian Meteorological Department has confirmed that the monsoon has arrived.

According to IMD Thiruvananthapuram, the southwest monsoon set in over Kerala and Lakshadweep on Monday. Heavy rain is expected to occur throughout the state in the coming days.

Prithviraj will play the role of Arjun (Mohanlal) did in the second part of the superhit movie Naduvazhikal.

The new movie tentatively titled Naduvazhikal 2 is directed by Shaji Kailas. The Naduvazhikal 2 is produced by Zion International Film Factory and Malavika Productions S Chandrakumar. The shooting of the film will start in August in Pondicherry and Kannur.
