Hridaya Spandanam: Free Cardiac Surgery at KIMS Hospital Trivandrum

KLF 2011: 4th Kovalam Literary Festival 2011 Trivandrum
Trivandrum, 7 September 2011: The fourth Deccan Chronicle-Kovalam Literary Festival 2011 will be held in New Delhi on 29th Sep and Oct 1 & 2 in Trivandrum, Kerala. The second leg at Trivandrum will be held at Kanakakunnu Palace Trivandrum.

TRAI Restriction: 100 SMS per Day from September 27
September 7, 2011: TRAI [Telecom Regulatory Authority of India] announced new regulation that all SMS packs that allow more than 100 SMS’ per day will not be available for renewal from September 27th.
It is expected all operators who are currently offering more than 100SMS/day packs will withdraw such packs, and bring new packs of maximum 100SMS/day or 3000SMS/month pack.
BSNL Revised 3G Data Tariff
September 7, 2011: BSNL, country's largest 3G coverage player, announced tariff hike on 3G data. BSNL brings a new tariff revision with effect from September 16th, 2011 and introduces some new plans and withdraws some earlier plans.
From 16th September base rate for BSNL 3G data will be 4p/10kB instead of previous 2p/10kB.
BSNL also cuts down freebies offering with new 3G data card connection – 200MB to be used 30 days from activation. Postpaid plans Rs. 89, Rs. 189, Rs. 1819, Rs. 2720 and prepaid Data RCV Rs. 2000 are also withdrawn according to the changes.

Trivandrum:, 7 September 2011: The Dairy Develoment Department, Government of Kerala has published the results of the Special Onam Milk Quality Testing drive which was conducted at various locations in the state.
The quality check has been conducted as per directions of Food Safety Commissioner from 1st September, 2011.
In the study conducted at Trivandrum milk brands such as Laya, KCA, Aroma, Suprabhatham, Haritha, Wagamon, Pulari, Shashti, Cowma, Milway, KS were not conforming to milk quality standards. Parametres such as Fat %, SNF %, Acidity % LA, Preservatives, Neutralizers, Adulterants were tested

GATE 2012: Apply Online @ www.gate.iid.ac.in : Begins on September 12
Trivandrum, September 6: Graduate Aptitude Test[GATE] in Engineering, which is the eligibility for M. Tech courses in India, begins its 2012 online application from September 12th to October 17th.
The exams will happen online on January 29th and offline on February 12th in National level. IIT New Delhi is conducting the 2012 Gate exams.
The results will be published on March 15th. The exam centres in Kerala are Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Kannur, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Thrissur.

Trivandrum, September 6: 4 more special trains are availed for Kerala in the Onam season by the Railway authority.
The trains are from Yashwantpur, Banglore, Chennai and Nizamabad. The Yashwantpur and Banglore will sttart on 6th September and reach Kochuveli on 7th.
The trains from Chennai and Nizamabad will start on 7th September and reach Kochuveli on 8th.

All Tele marketing calls will get a uniform first three digits, means all tele marketing calls will start with 140, which helps the consumer to know the call before attending it.
TRAI has given the last date to mobile phone service providers on September 27, to stop business calls and tele marketing calls.
According to the new setup if a consumer registered in DND [do not disturb] he/she willnot receieveany marketing calls.
All tele-marketing callers are provided with new land phone numbers starting with 140 for the pupose of simplifying the issues related with tele marketing disturbances.

Pondicherry - Trivandrum private bus met with accident at Tiruchirapalli (Trichy)
Trivandrum 5 September2011: A private tourist bus from Pondicherry to Trivandrum collided with a Tamil Nadu town bus at Thiruchirapalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu killing 14 passengers and injuring many.
13 of those killed were the Tamil Nadu town bus passengers and one, the driver of the Trivandrum bound bus.

Protest against MG Sreekumar for land encroachment

Trivandrum, 5 September 2011: According to media reports, noted singer and television personality MG Sreekumar has been accused of land encroachment in Trivandrum.
A group of people protested against MG Sreekumar for allegedly encroached upon a land near the Jagathy bridge.
The protest which included a road block at Jagathy came to an end when an offical order to check the allegations was announced.<

Trivandrum, September 4: The youth affairs Department arranges a Job Fair named as 'Job Fest 2011' in the city.
The event is on September 6 and 7 at St. Joseph's School in General Hospital junction. The government assured the participation of the corporate companies WIPRO, HCL, Alzec Technologies, Nest Technologies, EZE care systems, Genpact, Reliance, Religare, Metlife, First Source, HMT Global Solutions, Alliance Cornhill, Information Services.
The youth affairs department aims 1,500 jobs from the job fair. The posting would be in various posts: Software Engineer, Network Engineer, Technical Support Executive, Customer careExecutive, HR Manager, Sales and Marketing Manager, Unit Manager etc..
The eligibility criteria differs in various posts from BE, B.Tech to BA, BSc and Diploma. Those who are interested should attend the fair with at least 6 copies of their bio-data and photographs.

BSNL Revised SMS Packs
Trivandrum, September 3: BSNL, the largest GSM mobile player in India, revised its sms packs. The company has raised the tariff and reduced the validity time frame through new revisions.
The change does not touch the rate of sms packs, but the sms tariff has been increased.
Earlier the sms pack of Rs.13 availed local and std sms @1paise but now its @5paise for 30 days. The sms pack of Rs.20 allowed 100 localsms per dayor 2000 smsfor 30 days, but now this pack allows only 1000 sms for 15 days.
The sms pack of Rs.31 earlier allowed 2000 local sms and 1000 std sms for 30 days but itis reduced to 1000 local sms and 500 std sms for 15 days. Also aded a new pack of Rs.52 which allows 2000 local and 1000 std smsfor 30 days.
The new tariffs came into existence from September 1, 2011.
KSRTC Special Onam Services from Banglore
Trivandrum, September 3: Considering the Onam rush, KSRTC resolves to start special service from Banglore to the major stations in Kerala.
The Corporation arranged special Super-Express Airbus for the purpose.
The services are available from Trivandrum, Kochi, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
Seats can be reserved through online from www.keralartc.com. The services started on September 2nd and ends on September 16th.
Trivandrum-Chennai Ananthapuri Express to stop at Parassala Railway Station
Trivandrum, September 3: Ananthapuri Express, which travels between Trivandrum and Chennai Egmore via Nagercovil, allowed a new stop in Parassala.
The new stop will be regularised from 5th September.

Legal Cell for Kerala NRIs
Trivandrum, September 3: C.M. Oommen Chandy assured commencing of a special legal cell for NRIs from Kerala, especially for NRIs in Gulf countries.
The chief aim of the legal cell is to help innocents who are jailed in foreign counties. The government will call for the helping hands of various NRI groups which are working in various countries.
The C.M. also said that government has plans to give pension for the gulf returns who are 60 years or older and economically challenged.
Call 1800 425 7771 [Tollfree] to Register Road Complaints
Trivandrum, September 3: The Public Works Department has set up a complaint registering call centre.
One can call the tollfree number 1800 425 7771 for registering the complaints related to roads. The registered complaints will be transfered to the concerned engineers and the engineer will call back the complainant for collecting further details.
If there is no action has taken within 48 hours, the complainant can call 0471-2518124 where redressal is assured. The call centre has been developed by the combined effort of PRD and PWD departments.
Rest Houses for Police
Trivandrum, September 3: The government hasdecided to build 100 rest houses for police officers across the State.
The decision came after years long complaint that the police officers doing VVIP and VIP duties are not getting enough place to rest after completing a day long duty.
Finance Department already availed Rs.51 crores for the purpose.
Onam: Vegetables for 30% Discount
Trivandrum, September 3: Onam brings another special discount mela for Trivandrumites.
State Horticulture mission starting an Onam Mela from 4th September in University Stadium for availing fruits and vegetables in discount rate in the Onam season.
The mela will end on September 8th.
Caricature Show in City
Trivandrum, September 3: Kerala Cartoon Academy conducts a 'Caricature Show' in RCC on September 3rd for generating treatment aid for the patients in RCC's pediatric department.

Date Of Birth Correction in SSLC Book Application Online
Trivandrum, September 2: The procedure for correcting the Date of Birth in SSLC book now simplified.
An official application form is uploaded in the websites www.keralapareekshabhavan.in and www.sslcexamkerala.gov.in.
Those who want to apply for correction can log on to the website and download the application form and fill and submit it along with the birth certificate issued by local self government authority [attested by gazetted officer].
Earlier the procedures were complex, that one should produce the birth certificates of siblings, majistrate's acknowledgement and the certificate from the school in which he/she studied for the corrections in SSLC book.

NORKA ROOTS Centre Trivandrum, Call Centre, Attestation Centre inaugurated
Trivandrum, September 2, 2011: The Norka Centre Trivandrum which will house different offices of the Non Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) department will be inaugurated today at Thycaud.
The Norka centre will have the Norka roots certificate attestation centre at the ground floor, Non Residents welfare board office and Norka Roots Call centre at the first floor, Norka Roots head office at the 2nd and 3rd floors. The fifth floor will occupy the Office of the Central Government Protector and Emigrance Office and Norka Roots business centre.
The centre will also have an auditorium with a capacity of 250 peoples in the top floor.
The Norka Centre will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the Norka Roots Call centre will be inaugurated by Central Minister Vayalar Ravi and the attestation centre will be inaugurated by minister E Ahmed.

Airtel Revises SMS Packs
Trivandrum, September 2: Airtel, the leading mobile service provider revises its sms packs in the state. The maximum numbers of sms one can send per day in packs of Rs.6, Rs. 15, Rs.44 and Rs. 70 has been revised.
According to the change one can send 400 sms per day for the Rs. 6 and Rs. 15 packs. 150 sms per day for the Rs.44 pack and 200 sms for Rs.70 pack. The change will be applicable from September 3rd 2011.

MILMA: Price Hike at Rs.5 on 5th September
Trivandrum, September 2: Milma decides to increase the price of its milk at Rs.5 per litre from September 5th.
The decision came after Kerala High Court said, the Government has no right to interfere in price controlling matters of Milma.
Earlier the Government stopped the decision of rising the price of milk. The price rise will give Rs. 4.20 to the milk farmers and 20 paise to the society.

Kerala CM 24/7 Call Centre 1800 425 1076 Public Grievance Redressal Cell inaugurated
Trivandrum, 1 September 2011: The 24 hour call centre was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his office today. The initiative which is a part of the 100 day programme of the UDF ministry will offer a 24/7 platform for the people of Kerala to lodge their complaints and suggestions to the government.
The 24x7 call centre would facilitate people to register their grievances and complaints directly to the Chief Minister’s Office by telephone. The call centre would function 24x7 and can be accessed on 1076- toll free number, for BSNL customers. Those using other services will have to dial 1800 425 1076 for accessing the service. People calling from abroad have to fix the code 0471 before the toll free number.
The first petition which was lodged in the call centre was from the son of C.S Suresh Kumar a KSRTC driver who died while on duty of cardiac arrest.

KSRTC Kerala Bus Time & Schedule via SMS 537252
Trivandrum. September 1, 2011: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation KSRTC has designed a new project to avail the bus timings to passengers through sms.
Transport minister VS Sivakumar took initial steps for the mobile governance project after the completion of the total computerisation of the transport corporation.
The project has been created with the co-operation of state it mission. The system works when the passenger sends the details of his journey through sms to the number 537252. He/She receives the details of 20 services and its time schedules via sms.
